Yesterday, we had a conference with Rachel's teacher, which went very well by the way. Afterwards, we stopped by to see the special ed teacher to say hello, and see if Hannah was in her room. She wasn't, but we did wind up having a long chat with her teacher. She showed us the "IEP" for next year, and now I'm even more concerned than before!

Wait, IEP= Individualized Education Plan. That means it is specific to the child it is written for and it focuses on his/her individual needs. There is no One Size Fits All IEP.

Does your local area have a chapter of the ASA? Usually they have advocates that will go to meetings with parents or they can out you in touch with someone that will know how to make sure your child gets the education she has the right to receive.

Good Luck!

I was just talking to a friend who is having similar issues with his son's teacher. However, his son's disability is that he's too smart. He's not being challenged enough in school therefore he's causing trouble and "being lazy" and "not keeping up." (Just like me when I was his age.) I'm trying to help him find some resources like the local school board and the Ohio Educators Association so that he can try to keep his son in his current school. If he can't, he said he's going to send him somewhere else. It's frustrating when teachers look for loopholes to make their jobs easier. Can you get a hold of the school board in your area? Maybe they can help or suggest something.
