More about weddings

We borrowed the wedding tape of one of Satoshi's friends. It was boring. And very cookie-cutter.

No, no, no, and no. )

What is the weather like in Otaru during late August, anyway? Is there a good chance of it being nice at least? I can only hope that it's pleasant.

Summer in Hokkaido is one of the best times to be here. Tokyo (and the rest of Japan) is rainy all through June and hot and humid in July and August. But in Hokkaido it's beautiful. Most of the precipitation happens in the winter, starting to rain in October or so and then snowing nearly constantly December through February. Actually, for the best chance of a good day, late June would be best here, but it's a lot easier for my mom to take vacation in August, so August it is. I'd put the chances of a good weather day at pretty decent, but in no way definite.

Well, I'll hope for the best, then, as there's a good chance ;) It sounds like it's going to be absolutely lovely.

THIS is why I love Jewish weddings, and why I'm so glad I had one. There's a very short (~20 min) ceremony, and a big party afterward. At said party, everyone just eats, drinks, dances, and has a blast making fools of themselves and their dance partners. That's pretty much it. There are some prayers sprinkled here and there, and whatever local customs you want to include as an option (best man/maid of honor speeches, cake cutting, etc.), but that's about it. For all the ajita of planning, and the fact that my family was something like two hours late, I had a really great time. I'd recommend it to anybody. :)

That place (the resort in Otaru) has the strangest website. Pretty pictures, japanese text, even the english words scattered around the page I can deal with.

But the giant Doric column is really throwing me off. It just seems soooooo out of place.

*shrug*

anyhow, looks like a nice place :)

Whenever I think about weddings in Japan now, I think of the Princess Kitty Wedding Package excellently described in this blog here.

I've been thinking about going to Japan in November, (depending on what flavor of baby I get in May (quiet model, or loud model)) so we'd miss your wedding, but if we go maybe we can congratulate you in person later and throw flower petals at you then.

Wow, somehow I completely managed to miss the "I'm pregnant" part of your last post. Congrats!!! I hope you've gotten through the sickness and nastiness and you're on the "getting better" part of the ride. I've heard so many bad stories about pregnancy lately that it really sounds unpleasant all around.

And you have convinced me to completely turn around my wedding plans. How is it that I never knew I could have Princess Kitty at my wedding? I... I'm speechless. I can even have a Hello Kitty dress!

Yah, pretty astounding. I think for the ultimate wedding though, you'd need to have Princess Kitty as your bridesmaid, and then some giant mecha as the groomsman. Or you could get married in latex with life sized dancing Sony robots... I can see why you've decided to get married in Japan ( ... )

An assembly line with stages, "Welcome!" -> "Look, you're married." -> "Ooh, nice party, congrats!" -> "Neeext!"

I felt like a lot of the wedding places on Long Island and in Brooklyn were like that!
