Character: Ai Tokaji
Description of World: Ai doesn’t come from any special planet or unheard of land. In fact, she lives in the city of Kodaira in Western Tokyo, Japan. Everything is just like you’d find it back in 2006. Well, almost everything. Certain groups of people have tapped into their ‘ki’ powers, or the life-force that powers their body. This energy manifests into certain elements that corresponds with a person’s soul. These elements include fire, water, wind, earth, and any combination of two of the four basics (for instance, fire and wind create lightning, fire and earth is steel, water and wind is ice, and water and earth is wood). Although unlocking a person’s ki potential can bring them a great amount of power, not many know about it, as revealing the secret to those who are weak or selfish can result in death or massive amounts of destruction.

Along with ki, ‘chi’ powers are also known, although only a few people are born with it and even fewer develop the skill to its fullest. Chi is the power of the mind, and so it can be related to psychic abilities.

There are also some more advanced technologies than you’d find in the real world, although they remain relatively unknown to the majority of the world. Human cloning is already in use by one organization, although the clones will age quickly and decompose in only a few years. Supercomputers are also starting to be made in secret, although with bizarre experimental creatures. One of the more important inventions used by many ki wielders are ki orbs. They are similar to material from the Final Fantasy universe in that they can be used for elemental attacks, so people of a particular ki element can also use a different element. However, instead of energy being taken from the planet, ki orbs contain powers from a person. A person can store their powers either through absorbing blood into an empty orb or by putting their entire spirit in there, although the latter will result in that person’s death.

Personality: Ai can typically be seen as a happy, child-like girl who doesn’t let the worries of the outside world get to here. Mostly this is due to how sheltered she is by her siblings, since if something bad is happening around them they tend to try and keep it from her. Sometimes she is able to catch onto what’s going on; if this happens she isn’t entirely pleased, but doesn’t have the resolve to argue against it. Most of the time, however, things tend to fly right over her head.

Her lack of any real observational skills can also get her into trouble in conversations, something that can happen quite often. Ai enjoys talking and joking around with people. However, even if her jokes cause someone to become genuinely angry with her, she typically won’t notice and will keep talking until the person leaves or someone physically shuts her up. It’s been explained to her why people can become so annoyed with her, and while she does regret making them mad, Ai still doesn’t take the time to notice when she does it.

Ai, her family, and her friends are all fighters. Ai is also ranked among the weakest of the group, something that everyone knows and has to compensate for whenever a real battle is played out. Even she realizes it, and it is something she constantly finds herself regretting. She constantly holds the others back by needing to be protected. At first, she doesn’t have the willpower to work her hardest and better herself at fighting. It is an act she hates, and the thought of dirtying her own hands with blood is even more terrifying than others doing it for her. This does change eventually, though, as she’s kidnapped and used as a trading piece in order for her uncle to get something from her allies. Once she is returned, Ai finally is sick of being the one piece that can’t do anything for anyone else. She vows to grow stronger so that she may protect everyone else one day, even if it means paying a higher cost than she originally wanted.

One of Ai’s major traits is that she’s very family-oriented. Her entire life is pretty much centered on making her siblings happy, and she always looks up to them and does what she can to make their lives a bit easier. This usually amounts to cooking, doing the housework, and making sure her brother and sisters don’t kill each other.

Due to her happy and slightly dim nature, it’s rare for Ai to become angry at anyone. Any negative accusations or harm against her family will lead to her becoming rather agitated and defensive, but for the most part she’ll just lie down and take it. The end result of any bullying done to her is typically a lot of tears and her avoiding said bully for as long as she can. Like most types of confrontation, it’s one that she’s been sheltered from for most of her life and avoids whenever possible.

Upon meeting someone for the first time, Ai will usually present herself as an extremely polite girl who enjoys making small-talk in order to get to know the other person. If she comes to like someone, it won’t take long for her to start displaying her true, overly-talkative nature. In the presence of someone she doesn’t like or is uncomfortable around, however, she won’t talk unless necessary and won’t make eye contact with the person as a way of avoiding them.

Background: > Ai was born the youngest of triplet girls, the older two being named Akemi and Kai. Her mother died during childbirth, and soon after her father married another woman and gave them a half-brother named Shuji. Although she never knew her real mother, she still looked up to Shuji’s mother like her own and was typically doted upon by her parents. Several years later, Shuji’s mother died in a car crash. By the age of 10, their father was murdered by an unknown assailant and the siblings fell under the custody of their father’s brother Hitoshi. He was barely around, though, so the siblings had to take care of themselves for the most part. It wasn’t too much later that Ai came to realize that her family was being hunted down. Kai was the only one raised to protect them against their foes, so all Ai could do was be supportive as her sister worked to protect them.

For six years after their father’s death, they would occasionally move around to different locations, hoping to lose the unknown person who wanted them dead. Entering a new high school near their 16th birthday, Ai and her siblings made several new friends. The attacks kept coming, but the others didn’t abandon them. Instead, a few revealed that they had been training under a family that was experienced with ki, and soon everyone began to train under them. It was here that Ai learned to fight and discovered that her ki element was fire.

Eventually it was discovered that the man behind all of their attacks was none other than their uncle. Ai was distraught over the news, but had to accept it the hard way when one of the organizations under Hitoshi abducted her. The others managed to get her back, and afterwards Ai became a student of a powerful lightning ki user. She was determined not to be weak anymore, and the only way to do that was to become stronger before she could be killed.

After the death of one of their friends, everyone was brought under the care of an organization that had recently broken away from Hitoshi and wanted revenge against him. Ai trained more under them and was beginning to become as strong as her siblings. Their first real assignment was given a couple months later, where they had to break into the facility run by a group of assassins owned by Hitoshi. This didn’t turn out so well, as the one chi user of the assassins put everyone under an illusion that put them all to sleep and made them live out their untimely deaths. However, while the other succumbed to the illusions, Ai was the first to realize that the entire thing was only a trap. She broke out of her sleep by force and was able to defeat her enemy with her full power. As she was praised by Kai, the second one to come out of her death sleep, Ai was shot through the chest from behind and died instantly. Her pull point is from directly after her death.

Abilities/Additional Notes:
Abilities:
• Ki element: fire
• Ki weapon: two Chinese fans that have a two-foot radius and steel edgings
• Harvest Moon: The two fans open and form a circle, which gather up ki in the center before blasting at the opponent.
• Angel’s Fire: By drawing a pattern of blood over her collarbone and then cramming her two ki fans through it, she can give herself wings made out of fire that enable her to fly. Normal speed is tripled.
• Flame Sword: Ki sword made when the wings are engaged.
• As Ai is relatively weak when it comes to actual power, she relies on high speeds and being light on her feet in order to compensate for her lack of brute strength

Sample Journal Post:
[When the PCD is turned on, Ai’s turning it around in her hand and giving it a hard stare. Once she realizes that it’s recording, however, her eyes brighten and she gives a wide smile. For a moment, she even seems to forget about the bloody hole in her shirt.]

I got it to turn on! I’ve never had a phone like this before, so I wasn’t really sure how to work it. Oh! But I guess I should ask if anyone’s out there.

[She lifts up a hand and pats herself firmly on the cheek, trying to get herself focused on the task at hand.]

Hello? Can anyone hear me? I just found this lying on the ground nearby, so I’m not sure if someone dropped theirs, but I was just wondering…um…

[Her smile faulters.]

Is…this the place where people go after they….after they die? It’s kind of scary and depressing…

Sample RP:
Ai couldn’t remember the last time she had felt so alone. She wandered through the half-dead city, thinking back on her last moments of life and her very recent death. Never again would she be able to see her sisters, her younger brother, or any of her friends. Her life had ended, and now she was left alone as the others continued on. The thought of it all was enough to bring tears to her eyes, and soon the young girl was crying quietly to herself.

But if it was all over for her, why did she still feel so very alive? The bullet hole in her shirt and the blood was enough to tell her that her death had in fact happened, and yet she didn’t feel dead. It was all so very confusing to her.

“I wonder if this is all just another illusion…” she mumbled, sniffing. A hand reached up, wrapping around the cold metal of her heart-shaped locket. Ai looked down and held the necklace up. With a flick of her thumb, the locket was opened. Inside was a picture of her two twin sisters on one side with her brother’s face staring out the other half.

Even as her lips wavered, Ai still smiled. Had any of them been in the same situation, they most likely would do whatever they could to make the most of it. If she wanted to be as strong as them, then she would have to do the same.

With a firm nod, the locket was snapped shut again and the tears were wiped off of her face. Patting herself on the cheeks, Ai lifted her head and started looking around. It was at that moment that she spotted something off in the distance. It was a thing…no, a person! With a wide smile, Ai began running toward them, waving a hand and calling out. It didn’t matter if they were friendly or potentially dangerous; she was just glad to see SOMEONE here in this hellhole.

“Heeey! Excuse me! Do you think you could help me?!”
