A chance to write

I had another “I love living in Washington” moments yesterday, but this time I can connect it to the world of fan fic writing! I went to the National Council meeting of the National Endowment for the Arts - the quarterly meeting where the governing body overseeing the NEA comes to town to approve the grants for that quarter. That's a really cool project. I'll have to look it up.

I agree with you about the fanfic community encouraging new/old etc. writers to try it out. I've been reading almost a year now and have decided to start writing again. I fancy myself a writer but haven't written anything in about 4 years due to 1)laziness (well, I have been in grad school) and 2) lack of confidence. To see everyday folks writing for the love of it and quality writing to boot, plus the encouragement is very enticing for a writer of low confidence. I really like the fanfic community and am glad to have become a part of it.

By the way...I like Knight of the Rose...been following it on Quidditch Pitch. Great job with that story! :-)

I've had very good experiences with the fan fic community so far. I wish I'd tapped into them earlier when I was writing - I could have used more feedback. That's why I was so hesitant to post KotR for so long. I actually started writing it in fall 2005, and tweaked it for almost an entire year before getting the courage to post it. But it's good to get back into it. I hadn't done any creative writing since school - and that was minimal. I never saw myself as a creative writer, though I'd done a lot of writing in grad school and in my work. But it's a good hobby.

I just checked TQP and the epilogue is posted! Keep your eye out for a couple of follow-up stories. One's called Black Roses, and the other is called White Roses - I had to go with the rose theme. :)
