I still remember reading this in high school and it being myself and a friend against the hordes of anti-Ednaites in the entirety of the honors english students my junior year. I almost named my viola Edna. I haven't re-read it in awhile; I should.

You know, I am really glad I read this book a little later in life. I think I would have sympathized with Edna as a high school student but now that I am older, I empathize. People try to make me feel bad or wrong about not wanting to be a wife and a mother all the time
