I was mean today. And it came back to bite me. *sighs*
Have you ever watched Jerry Springer or a similar show? I have.
Sure, I usually flip the channel, disgusted. I declare I'm never going to watch TV again, make a cup of tea, and grab the nearest book so that I can feel smart and superior.
But there are days when I stop and watch. And I know it's horrible, that little feeling of relief and even glee. Thank goodness for my life, I think. Oh, let me count the ways I can puff myself up on nothingness.
Today, it was as if I jumped through my TV screen and onto the stage. No, not the stage. I wasn't one of the mothers looking for a free paternity test and a little publicity. But I was one of those annoying audience members who stood up and sneered, "You need to get your life back on track!"
Is the accusatory audience member really any better than the woman on the stage? Or the host? They're all necessary to make the spectacle work.
Well, in much happier but still fandom related news, I received my SS/HG present today! I was surprised and pleased to see that my mystery author took my first prompt. It was definitely the most difficult of the three. I asked for a story in which Snape is dead and Hermione doesn't care ... at least not until she finds his pensieve. If my mystery author is actually on my f-list, I'd like to give an extra thanks for the story!
And in non-fandom news, I'm going to start reading the His Dark Materials series soon. I'm sorry to report that my DH, who loved the first book and liked the second book, wasn't very fond of the third. He wouldn't tell me much, of course, because I haven't yet read the series. I know that some of you really love the series so far. I'm looking forward to reading the books for myself.
Do hope you're all doing well.
