I was fortunate enough to see OotP at midnight with
stephanie206 and her awesome family and friends. We were at a big IMAX theater packed full of Potter fans (including two of my students ... they thought it was hilarious that I was there, and I was so glad to see them, actually. One of the things I love about my students is that they all seem to understand

ME TOO! Not just because the film's flaws reinforced the book's strengths, but because seeing it on the screen somehow brought home how dangerous a situation everyone is in. Reading about fear and paranoia and wand dueling isn't the same as seeing it.
But it was peculiarly a very quiet movie, don't you think? I wanted to hear Harry scream when Sirius, very quietly, fell into the veil. I wanted to hear Harry scream at Dumbledore, who'd acted like a git the whole year by avoiding him. At least he yelled at Snape a little ( ... )

YES! That's it exactly! I really wanted to hear Harry scream, as well.
Yes to everything you said, actually. You captured my feelings on the film better than I did ! ;-D

I kept waiting for Harry to go find Nearly Headless Nick! When he sees Luna I kept thinking "he has got to go after that!" but nope...nothing of that!
And Lily missing from the memory! She HAD to be there, definitelly important part of the memory...they did some things so well, and yet messed up so spectacularly in others!
I had totally forgotten about the isolation, you're right, its downplayed a lot...there are a few shots here and there where he's left alone, I guess that was their idea of letting us know he felt isolated. Also, I missed more of the teen anger that comes through in the book, he was too subdued to be an angry and angsty teen...*sigh* oh well, cant have it all cant I?
I really want to go see it again but I think I might have to wait until next weekend...we´ll see!

I can't wait to go again, as well. :-D

Sure, I was disappointed about Snape's Worst Memory, like everyone else. (Poor Alec Hopkins! Imagine how much time he must have spent acting those scenes for a whole two seconds of screen time.) I understand why they didn't go the Pensieve route, but between that and cutting both the Snape-Sirius grudge fest and the I HATE SNAPE yelling after the Department of Mysteries battle ... well, for Pete's sake, there's no sense that either Harry or Snape has any emotion stronger than mild annoyance for the other. I agree with you that Snape seems soft here.
Though I really enjoying seeing him in Harry's memories. (What did he say? "I think I may vomit"? Hee.)

I also disliked Movie 4. But I loved Movie 3. It was my favorite, by far. ;-D
RE: Alec Hopkins ... he shouldn't feel too bad. Judi Dench won best supporting actress for something like 60 seconds of screen time in Shakespeare in Love. ;-D

I'm off to see OotP this evening. I can hardly wait.
May I friend you?

I'd be honored. I'm hoping you won't mind if I do the same? ;-D
I'm really happy you liked the story! I'm sorry there wasn't any romance - or even friendship - between SS and HG. Thanks again for the prompts! I have only been able to comment on the first 20-25 postings in the exchange, so I don't think I reviewed your artwork yet. Beautiful work!
Hope you have fun at OotP tonight.

I, too, am hopelessly behind on reading and commenting at the exchange. I'll get there ... eventually.
Thank you very much - it was the first time I've ever done art ... I was very nervous about how it would be received, and I spent days researching the style and picking elements to stick in it.
OotP - it's so wonderful to see the characters come to life and Harry's so grown up, isn't he. Lucius was magnificent, Umbridge despicable and Snape ... uh, lukewarm, I guess. Ron was fantastic in this movie, wastn' he (I've always been irritated by him, immensely).
