Hey. So I thought about it and I decided to add a second chapter to my fan fiction, Everything Will Be Fine. I hope you like it!
Hopefully, I did this right again lol.
Chapter 2 - There Will Be Obsticales, There Will Be Tears
Couple: Sophie/Sian
Summary: Certain obsticales will get in the way...
SOPHIE giggled happily to herself as she danced around the kitchen to the music playing on the radio. So infectiously optimistic, she was hardly listening to the syncopated beat but simply jumping back and fore, humming and chuckling to herself, feeling foolish and on top of the world.
It was 8.30am on a Saturday morning and an unusual time for Sophie to wake and get up but somehow, stirring and finding Sian sleeping beside her, looking too alarmingly beautiful for Sophie’s senses, she’d found the strength to drag herself out of bed, leaving Sian to lie in.
It was so perfect that everyone on the street still believed the pair to be just friends for Sophie and Sian could spend as much time in each other’s company and no one was the wiser as to what was really going on. It was so easy to sleep over each other’s houses or go out for food and because they’d always been affectionate towards one another before, it was only second nature to be able to hug one another in front of people. As long as they didn’t start kissing in front of everyone they were fine and their relationship could be preserved for as long as needs be.
The kettle hissed and screamed loudly, indicating that it had boiled and Sophie stopped dancing and reached across to retrieve it.
“Is there enough water in that kettle for a second cup?”
Sophie turned to the sound of the voice behind her and smiled, finding Sian leaning against the wall of the kitchen. She was smiling timidly, her arms folded across her chest, looking adorable in a baggy pair of pink and white dotty pyjamas.
“Sure.” Sophie answered and she turned around to grab another cup for Sian, “did you sleep okay?”
“Yeah, ‘Sian said and Sophie felt her presence behind her and knew she’d stepped closer, “you?”
Sophie nodded but lost her words when Sian’s hand slipped around her waist to rest on her stomach, splaying out possessively over the thin material of Sophie’s pyjama top.
“I was kind of disappointed when I didn’t wake to find you there though, ‘Sian exclaimed, her breath hot in Sophie’s ear, “it’s not like you to wake so early on a Saturday.”
“I couldn’t sleep, ‘Sophie answered shrugging her shoulders, “so I got up.”
“Sophie, ‘Sian growled impatiently, “turn around.”
Sophie turned in her girlfriends arms and smiled faintly as she saw the determination and frustration flickering in Sian’s fantastic ultramarine eyes. Leaning in, their lips met in a hesitant kiss, gentle, unrushed and chaste.
“I could get used to waking up to something like that every morning.” Sian murmured, leaning her forehead against Sophie’s, their eyes locked on one another.
“So I could.” Sophie whispered and she brushed her nose against Sian’s affectionately before she kissed her again.
The sound of footsteps approaching down the stairs startled the girls and they leapt apart, darting over to opposite sides of the room. As Rosie Webster, Sophie’s older, egotistical sister strutted into kitchen, Sian pretended to be gazing out the window whilst Sophie finished making the tea.
“Morning girls.” Rosie said cheerfully.
“Oh, morning.” Sian said, turning around. Sophie caught her eye and held in a giggle for Sian looked nervous and on edge.
“What’s up with you two?” Rosie asked, sensing the awkwardness between her sister and her friend, “you both look really flustered.”
“Well it’s warm.” Sian said, fanning herself with her hand.
“And I was just dancing to some music.” Sophie added in.
Rosie looked back and fore between the pair, her brow furrowed as she took in their shiftiness, “you two are so weird.” She finally muttered and before any of them could say anything more, she’d strutted out of the kitchen, through the living room and out of the house, slamming the front door behind her.
“That was close.” Sian sighed as she stepped towards Sophie anxiously, her body simply quaking with adrenaline.
“I know, ‘Sophie muttered, “I don’t think I could handle any stick from Rosie if she found out about us. The jokes and ridicule would be endless.”
“Well we were lucky, ‘Sian said, “but I think we’re much more aware of things around us at the moment. We’re always watching our backs, making sure no one see’s us.”
“Your right, ‘Sophie nodded, “but it doesn’t make it any less nerve-wracking. I just want to be with you without having someone disturbing us.”
Sian smirked, “well there is a way.”
“How?” Sophie queried.
“No questions. It’s a surprise; you’re just going to have to trust me.” She said firmly.
Sophie handed her a cup of tea and took her own, frowning questioningly, “should I be worried?”
“Of course not, ‘Sian chuckled, “just leave it to me,” and with that she touched her mug to Sophie’s in mock celebration, looking delighted with herself.

A couple of hours later found Sophie and Sian at Southport Pier strolling side by side, sharing a bag of chips and each other’s company. There was ease between them for there, at that very moment in time; they could be themselves without fear of being seen, for Southport was such a big place that it was very unlikely they would be recognised.
“This is nice.” Sophie said.
“I know, I know, ‘Sian giggled as she popped a chip into Sophie’s mouth, “I am a genius.”
“And so vain too.” Sophie teased, chewing hungrily.
The blonde pretended to take offence and nudged her girlfriend in the ribs, “Hey I resent that.”
“Well don’t, ‘Sophie said, stopping and turning so she was facing Sian, “because, yes, you are a genius.”
Sian smiled softly and shrugged her shoulders, “I have my moments, ‘they started walking again, “did you know that it’s a big tradition here to stroll down Southport Pier on Boxing Day?”
“Really? That’s an odd tradition.” Sophie said, frowning.
“I know but loads of people do it. My Mom and I did it last year.”
Sophie smiled, “I never knew that.”
“It was fun, ‘Sian exclaimed brightly, “I didn’t think I would enjoy myself but I did. It cleared my head especially because at the time I was still missing you and Ryan so much.”
Sophie inwardly cringed as she thought of Sian’s ex-boyfriend, “do you miss him?” She queried.
“Ryan?” Sian asked.
The brunette nodded.
“To be honest, no, ‘Sian answered and her voice was layered with dislike, “I’ll never forgive Ryan for trying it on with you Soph. He kept claiming he loved me and he cared for me but I think he pretty much just wanted his leg over. It seemed to be the only thing on his mind and when he tried to kiss you I knew it was the last straw.”
“I am sorry about Ryan.” Sophie whispered.
Sian stopped, blinking in confusion, “Why?” She asked.
“Because of the way he treated you and because in a way it was my fault you broke up.” Sophie replied.
Sian looked bitterly angry by Sophie’s answer and sighing in frustration she said through clenched teeth, “That is not true! Ryan and I would’ve broken up eventually anyway and besides, I’m a firm believer in fate, ‘she shrugged uncaringly, “it wasn’t meant to be.”
Sophie took Sian’s free hand in hers and held it tight, their fingers clasping together so hard it was as though neither wished to let the other go.
“I promise you Sian that I’ll never be like Ryan. I’ll never treat you the way he did.” Sophie said tenderly.
Sian smiled, “I know you won’t.”
S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.
ANOTHER hour had passed and Sophie and Sian were making their way back up the Pier to go back to Weatherfield where Sian was spending the night again.
They’d had a wonderful time together and found great ease in being themselves in public, sharing the odd kiss here and there, being not only girlfriends but best friends, intermingling both sides of their relationship together to make something that felt quite safe and perfect.
“Maybe one day we’ll take a walk down this Pier on a Boxing Day?” Sian said looking out at the crashing waves, beaming with contentment.
Sophie nodded, “I’d like that. Just you and me.”
“We need to do this again.” Sian exclaimed.
“We will. I’ve decided to get a job so I can afford to come and see you.” Sophie said looking pleased with herself.
“Perhaps I should get a job too. It’ll be easier to see each other if we both have enough money to do it. I think if I keep asking my Dad to pick me up to see you he’ll start suspecting things.” Sian told Sophie.
“It’s going to come out about us eventually Sian.”
“I know, I know ‘Sian said, “but we agreed against telling everyone until after our exams. I want to stick by that. We can still have a laugh can’t we?” She turned and wrapped her arms around Sophie’s neck, pulling her close.
“Of course we can.” Sophie sighed, reaching up to brush a finger along Sian’s jaw.
“Hey!” A voice called as Sian kissed Sophie gently on the lips. The girls pulled away from one another and looked about in confusion and slight fear, for they had no idea who had called them.
“Hey girls.” Someone said again and Sophie’s gaze fixed upon a small group of teenage boys walking towards them, “well look what we have here. A proper pair of lesbians!” The boy in the front said and Sophie felt a twist of hurt enter her stomach when Sian yanked herself away from her, tucking her hands under her arms as if touching Sophie was suddenly some sort of taboo.
“Aww, is the show over already?” The same boy said teasingly. The boys behind him jeered and chuckled, shouting encouragement.
“Why don’t you just get lost?” Sophie snarled. Sian stepped back shyly and looked down at her feet, flushing pink.
“Are you going to make him butch!” One of the others said and the group burst into raucous laughter.
“Good one Malcolm, ‘Sneered the boy who’d first spoken, “so come on girlies. Tell us. Which one of you is the guy or is it a role you just swap around?”
Sophie was enraged. What a stereotypical disgusting homophobic attitude! She suddenly felt very sick.
“Look why don’t you and your perverted little friends drop dead!” She hissed.
“Ooh, looks like we found the guy, ‘he laughed and then he peered over Sophie’s shoulder to look at Sian, “hey baby, why don’t you come and hang out with a real man.”
Sophie stepped possessively in front of Sian, glaring venomously, “I thought I told you to get lost!”
“You bitches are all the same aren’t you? Only interested in each other, why -” He was cut off by Sian barging past him, darting through the group quickly as if she could no longer handle the harsh comments.
The boys howled with laughter and this only seemed to increase Sian’s horror for her pace quickened and soon she seemed to be a mere speck on the pier.
“Sian! Wait!” Sophie called out.
“I don’t think she’s coming back.” The boy called Malcolm said.
Sophie purposely stepped through the group, shoving into them, glaring in rage, “You arrogant, twisted jerks! You make me sick. I could call you so many things right now but unfortunately my religion doesn’t allow me to. Why don’t you go take a very, very, very long walk off the pier...and then keeping walking!”
Before the boys could react Sophie took off down the pier, calling out for Sian, hoping somehow she could find her.
S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.
SOPHIE found Sian curled up against the wall of an alley, whimpering and snivelling into her arms, her shoulders shaking as she tried to contain her anger and shame. The sight of her all but broke Sophie’s heart. She looked so defeated and miserable and Sophie could think of nothing that would bring her comfort.
“Sian?” She muttered, kneeling down so she was level with her.
Sian lifted her head from her arms and sniffled tiredly.
“Hey, it’s okay.” Sophie crooned gently.
Those three simple words had a strange, powerful effect on Sian. She threw herself into Sophie’s arms, knocking her off balance so she landed on her backside and curled into the nape of her neck, clinging to her as though her life depended on it. Her crying was gentle, her lips brushing against her neck as she searched for the reassurance that only Sophie could give her.
“It’s alright, it’s alright, ‘Sophie whispered, stroking Sian’s hair, “it’s over.”
“Is it really though? ‘Sian asked, “I mean how many people are actually going to accept us?”
“I don’t know, ‘Sophie said, “but even if no one accepts us, like I said before, it’s no one else’s business. It’s ours. You and me. What we choose to do is for us and I don’t care about anyone else but you.”
A short abrupt laugh escaped Sian’s lips, “well you should. Did you see how we were treated back there? They made fun of us, like we were freaks of nature.”
“That was just ignorance! In my opinion, love is love, whether it be between a boy and a girl, two lads or two girls. I love you Sian and I’m not afraid. You shouldn’t be either.”
Sian lifted her head from Sophie’s neck and smiled, “I just need time to get used to these new feelings, ‘she stirred in Sophie’s embrace and rested her head on her shoulder, “I like them, I like the butterflies I get when I first see you or the way my body kind of goes out of control when you touch me but it’s still all new.”
“I know. It’s new for me too.” The brunette sighed, “but there will be obstacles for us to overcome and there will be tears. I just need to know you’re going to be strong enough to deal with it all.”
Sian nodded, “I am.”
Sophie pulled back from her, tucking a strand of blonde hair behind her ear, “good. That’s what I want to hear.”
Sian offered her a somewhat complacent smile, “Soph?” She murmured.
“Yeah?” Came Sophie’s answer.
“Can we go home now?”
S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.
AT least fifteen minutes into the journey of the bus ride back to Weatherfield, Sian fell asleep. The unexpected events of the day and the tears had overcome her with exhaustion and in the middle of a conversation she’d simply drifted off.
Sophie, so besotted and happy, couldn’t find it in her heart to be mad at her that she’d fallen asleep whilst they’d been talking. She took immense pleasure in slipping an arm around Sian and holding her close, enjoying the weight of Sian’s head on her shoulder.
“What am I going to do with you?” She said gently, caressing the soft curls of Sian’s hair.
She leaned down and pressed her lips to Sian’s forehead, adoring her.
Sian’s eyelids flickered open and she looked up at Sophie and smiled wearily, “sorry. I didn’t mean to fall asleep.”
“Don’t worry. It’s not your fault. You’re tired so go back to sleep.” Sophie ordered and without caring that a bus full of people were watching, she leant in and captured Sian’s lips in a gentle kiss and was thrilled that Sian, without fear, responded with just as much enthusiasm.
When they pulled away Sian sighed and tucked herself closer to Sophie, safe and loved. Sophie couldn’t help but smile to herself. She knew everything would be okay, even with the tears, even with the obstacles! It was enough.
