*eyes beta suspiciously* Are you trying to tell me something?

You know how I feel about the passive voice, right? If it was good enough for the Romans...

Actually, no, I just thought I'd post it since I sent it to Kirsty (she writes Falling In, posted over at Ashwinder, under the name of gothic_girl82 or something like that) and it sounded like a good thing to know, so yeah.

And I do like the passive voice. It's just not practical in all situations.

Just think of me as your own private grammar tutor on LJ. Since you're the only person who sees it and I can't be bothered to pimp it ;)

Look, if you're going to answer lj comments, you might as well be on IM so I can whine at you in real time.

Heh... can't be bothered to pimp it, eh? *evil laugh*

If I hadn't been tempted to friend you after wonderfulchild pimped this entry on her LJ, *nonchalantly looks away and whistles, while stirring up trouble* I would have to friend you just for your bio.

Welcome to LJ world! Any friend of hers is a friend of mine, especially if said friend helps her get another chapter of WTTF out sooner.

So, having said that, may I friend you?

Of course! I love friends, they make me happy.

I was hyped on caffeine and an extreme case of insomnia. Anything in that bio is not directly related to me in a stable state of mind. I don't think I've even read it since then, hah.

I'm pushing, I'm pushing. Go and tell her to stop fretting and that she isn't as craptacular as she says it is.

*mutual friends*

*waves* Hullos, welcome to LJ world! I decided to check you out because wonderfulwrites linked you. Liked the blurb on active/passive voice--my Technical Writing teacher didn't do near as good of a job explaining it to the class the other day.

On that note, do you mind if I friend you?

She's been bothering me to make this thing for the longest time so she can "fangirl" me properly, hah.

I'm glad you liked the blurb. Grammar can sound so stupid sometimes. I try to help in any way I can.

Of course! Friend away! *adds also*

I hope it's okay to friend you. Not only are you a SS/HG believer, which would perfectly suffice to friend you but you're a beta reader as well. What's more, you offer constructive advice. I really like that. Fun was had by me during the reading of your post. :-)

I don't think saying "this is bad" without an explanation is necessarily conducive to the author's writing or ego. Actually, saying "this is bad" isn't all that conducive, either. I would personally recommend, "I think you could do better with some polishing."

;)

And listen, missy, that isn't a case where the passive voice would be allowed. ;P

You know, my mind is divided over the "this is bad" issue... I'd say it's beta to hear this from a beta than from a moderated archive. ;-) But yes, your latter suggestions has a lot more merit, although it's likely to cause you more work because the author is likely to be spurred on to write more, LOL.

I didn't think passive voice should be allowed in that particular case *snerk*. I just wanted to make sure I fully comprehend the passive voice. The post on passive voice was written well enough for even the dimmest dunderhead to comprehend. :-)

Good, so I don't have to worry about Ron writing an essay in all passive voice to sound intelligent?

(Much to Wonderful's chagrine, he's so not my favorite.)
