I was very surprised to see that was you; I am very thankful that you are okay. It truly is miraculous. I guess you're stuck here whether you like or not sometimes... I'm in the same boat.
I've wanted to reconnect with you for a while and see how you were doing. We were seeing each other for a while some years ago, but I didn't want to deal with your alcoholism at the time. You've had a lot of tough times in your life and I understand why you made some of the choices you were making at the time. It's not something that I held against you, only realized that it wasn't healthy for me to be around at the time.
Are you finally clean or further along the path to doing so? I just want to know that you're doing well. Your old cellphone number was disconnected when I called it sometime last year when I stumbled upon the above referenced article.

Yeah, I had a pretty abusive ex that ended up in a whole new phone number. I still drink, though it is closer to once a week than once a day, and much lower quantities. So there we are.
Once I asked my mother if life got easier at some point and she said 'no, but you get used to it'. Life is still tricky for me, though I am in a way better place by all accounts. Now I am just dealing with the baggage left over. Example: I recognize now I had a drinking problem when I knew you, and before I knew you and for some time afterward. Still, I am not 'clean and sober' and if that is something you will judge me on then you are not ready to reconnect with me.
