I do 1 mile in 20 minutes, so that's the same as your 3 in 60. I usually speed walk and do a few 30-second/1-minute bursts of jogging for the aerobic effect, rather than long periods of jogging because I don't want the burning of lean muscle effect.
I read that doing the jogging spurts is much better than the full on jogging. I was only able to do 1.5 miles today. I was kinda bummed but towards the end my legs just felt weak. I was mad at myself.
