[what started out as a day spent very warily heading out to as many ends of the barrier as possible to get a better look at what's looming in the sky above them all-- despite the weather-- has abruptly ended upon the discovery of a mask that looks exactly like a certain housemate

[And Riku's darting around in an awkward bliss, looking for aaaall his friends, due to his rather affectionate mood all of the sudden. Blame the mask.

...but uh. He's mistaking Sora for Xion, and those crystals are alarming.]

Xion? What's going on?

[soracles]

I'm not--

[though he's interrupted by a loud chnk as another crystal forms along the length of his leg. Sora can only supply Riku with a helpless expression that is somehow tinged with a layer of denial.]

[Oh man. Yeah, it's hard balancing the mask's influence with that.

So, he's going to get closer, all while trying to take off the Couple's Mask.]

Then-- who is this?

[soracles]

... Sora. I'm Sora.

[perplex_me]

[Being a ghost? Really not his favorite way of spending time in Luceti. But when he comes across 'Xion' on his way home, he just pauses and gives her a very alarmed look. And he's running faster to get there.]

No! [He's practically throwing himself down because he knows what this mean and it's kind of terrifying.] Xion, what happened?!

[soracles]

I'm not Xion.

[no, of course you are, Sora-- or rather, Xion is him-- it's one of those, at least. either way, he's not the dead one in this encounter, despite the shards of crystals that are his legs, so he lifts his head and stares at Roxas quizzically.]

[perplex_me]

...what's that supposed to mean? [That quizzical look? It's right back at you, bro.]

[soracles]

I'm not! I found this mask-- I meant to bring it back to the house so we could figure out what it was, but then... [and there's that thought of curiosity replaying in his head.]

What happened to you, Roxas?

[Voice]

[meteorical]

[...that sounded ominous and disturbing.] Xion? Where are you? [And she's already got some suspicions...if Luceti's taught her anything...heck, if her life has taught her anything, it's that not everyone is who they sound like.]

[Voice]

[soracles]

Kairi?

[there's a brief pause, and the sound of Sora... attempting to shift around. it's not working.]

I'm right outside the plaza, but... listen, I'm serious about the mask thing, all right? If you see one that looks like someone you know, don't even touch it.

[Voice]

[meteorical]

I think I'd have to take this one off, first. Stay there, I'm coming! [And she's just. Bolting out the door. Without a coat or an umbrella. Whoops.]

[Voice]

... All right.

[normally he would at least try to meet her halfway, but crystal legs are not particularly conducive to doing so-- that's why, when Kairi arrives, he's sitting in the exact same spot he has been since they spoke.]

[She totally doesn't know this is you Sora so hope you don't mind. Just the subject at hand has caught her attention]

What are those masks capable of doing?

[voice]

Naoto?

They... turn you into the person the mask looks like.

[Well anyways, back to them masks] Is that all they do? Do you possess any of their abilities after putting it on?

[voice]

[soracles]

It's me, Naoto! Sora! And-- unless turning your legs into crystal is an ability Xion never told me about...

[Why did it have to be today that Luke decided to go out? Why did it have to be today that he had no mask to cloud his judgment?

He has an umbrella over his head, but when he sees what looks like Xion there with her legs crystallized, he very nearly drops it. What... What was happening to her? For a moment all Luke can do is stare with wide eyes, and then it's as another crystal appears that he really does drop the umbrella and run over to her.]

Xion!

[Action]

[soracles]

[Sora flinches visibly at Luke's voice, and he doesn't look directly at him initially, his gaze instead fixed on some point in the far distance. give him a minute to shake off the burgeoning shame.]

I'm... not Xion. [why did he put that mask on? now he's stuck here, stranded in helplessness, and even worse-- worrying Xion's friends.]

[For a second Luke slows down a little at those words. Not Xion? But... it had to be her. It sounded like her and everything... So, he hurries over again, until he's by her side, though not touching. His hands hover in the air, clutching at the air uselessly in front of them. What would happen if he did touch her? Would he make it worse? What's happening to her?]

Don't say that - What's happening to you?! What... [He's not even sure what else to say or ask or anything.]

[soracles]

[Sora can't answer that question. it's why he just stares at Luke in a wide-eyed silence for a moment, one agonizing lapse of silence. what he finally realizes, what he needs to say finally hits him-- Sora leans forward as best as he's able.]

Xion-- the real Xion-- is safe. [not that he knows that for sure, but Sora means to say is that she's not currently crystallizing. she's not him. let's not argue semantics.]

I'm someone else; I just... found a mask. So please don't worry, okay?
