Have you ever noticed that people are SUPER connected these days but at the same time we are completely disconnected as a society from our communities, from any sort of deep connection? It feels at times as if everyone is micromanaging their relationships with twitter and up to the minute running commentary on their day, but that people are more ( Read more... )

It's funny, I often feel like we are all very separated too...people in general. I usually don't like to call people...what if they are busy...I would hate to bug them! But, honestly, who cares! I really should call people more often!!! I never do!

As for keeping up with technology, I made a promise to myself to know what all these new things were...so I started Twittering. At first I thought it was dumb, but it's kind of fun. I am a snoopy person in general, it's fun to know what the celebs are twittering! It's just mindless fun! lol

As for texting, well, I do that one handed while driving! lol It's bad I know. But it is the way I stay in touch with my kids and some of my friends. Like I said, I hate bugging people by calling. Texting is really fun...or at least to me it is. I know...I am odd.

I sometimes wish people were more in touch with eachother. You are right, we are a very lonely society. I think we all must make an effort to not only call, but get together more often with those that we love :)

I actually think people venture into these knew technologies too quickly without a thought on how to evolve etiquette and strategies to avoid social pitfalls that come along with them. Look how rude cell phone users are...its because they didn't evolve etiquette along the way. Look at all the inappropriate stuff that can go on online nowadays...just because we can be that more connected through the internet. Some of these things would never happen in real life...but since you can be someone else online...well...

As for a change of scenery...I could use that too...

I just quit Twitter. Don't like it.

We would have never met if not for technology...that is one of the up sides.

Can't wait to see you all in person later this months...we need to set a date for our BBQ. I'm still open for my place and maybe the Saturday or Sunday before you leave so no one is rushed?????

Everyone is So Connectec, and yet at the Same time, completely disconnected. They would rather Blog or E-mail ot twitter or Chat online than Call and talk in Person. What gets me is when there is a Whole Conversation going on someplace (Like in an office)via E-mail, and the People are Literally 10 feet away from each other

Tharsos...that depends on the conversation. If it's at work, I prefer email simply for the "paper" trail that it leaves. Always like to CMA on anything to do with work!! But, yes there are downfalls to technology and I do notice that the next generation is lonelier...they get lost in their video games while they chat on MSN with friends and strangers alike. But I also notice that these tools are used to set social events in motion as well. Those who know how to use the technology can MSN their friends who can text those not on the computer (or if they have an iphone or a blackberry, it doesn't matter) and make plans to get together...that's a good thing. I do remember calling one friend and then calling another friend and then calling back the first friend who had called another friend...well you get the picture. It really is easier now to pull a gathering together ( ... )
