An amnesia episode sounds scary. It's good to hear that your dad is feeling better! I wouldn't worry too much about the overnight observation thing, it's pretty much routine nowadays from what I've observed last couple times I had family members in the hospital. (Particularly if they gave him any new kinds of medicine.)

And don't make yourself sick with worry! The worst is over, so focus on something fun!!
