The Stray Cats of Parliament Hill

On Friday I walked over to Parliament Hill at lunch - it had been a while since I've done that. There wasn't much to see in terms of gardens, birds or famous politicians, but I did notice that six stray cats were out enjoying the mild weather ( Read more... )

That's really awesome. Those cats seem very well-cared for -- I love that your government is supportive of these endeavors. There are quite a few cat sanctuaries in NYC, but they have to exist on donations alone. :(

those kitties are too fat to be taking off after that squirrel.

it's nice that they do that for them. One of these days I'm going to take pics of all the strays around my apartment block. They're all a lot skinner than those ones though.

Hurray for treating strays with compassion! Just out of curiosity, are there nobody willing to adopt these cats? Or is it a matter of preference to let they stay outdoors and free?

From what I've read, these cats are feral and do not interact well with humans and wouldn't integrate well into a home. Any kittens that are born to these cats (before they are neutered, obviously!), are put up for adoption. I'm sure people would adopt them if they could - they are surprisingly beautiful!

We got our two cats from a group who does feral cat colony management -- and yeah, the adults do not generally adapt well to living with humans. But the kittens (Monty and Ethel were rescued at 4 months or so) can be socialized and adopted. :)

those cats are beautiful, though. YOU'RE A KITTY!

Heh. Normally I say things like "Who's the pretty boy?" (or girl, depending on which one I'm talking to!) or "Who's my baby?" I told Jango today "You're a kitty!" and it was just too inane for me! :)

That's amazing I didn't know that. Gill, I've tried for over a week to email you on that address but it keeps saying the server times out so can't deliver it. Here's my email april.pearce@shaw.ca
