The Sentence Fest

sara_holmes and I had a brain child last night: we're the proud parents of a fledgling baby fest. I'm scrounging around to see who else might be interested in joining us in any capacity.

The idea is a sentence. How many different ideas can be born from a single sentence? From a few sentences? We've called it, aptly, The Sentence Fest.

Here's approximately how it would work:

Prompters would submit a sentence. Or a couple sentences. Not too much-just enough to light a spark or get some juices going.

Writers would take that sentence or sentences and write from them. That sentence might wind up as the opening of the piece; it might be in the center, at the crux, or only there in spirit. Who knows? Who cares. Pieces could be snippets, blurbs, musings, entire fics, 400 words or several thousand-again, whatever you like, as long or short as the mood strikes.

Unlike other fests where prompts are “claimed” and then disappear like so much ash in the wind, the goal here is to get multiple people working on the same sentence in order to see how much different-ness and creativity can come from the same point of ignition.

Writers would be encouraged to pick as many of the things as they found pleasing. Pitch hitters would only be needed in the event that all but one writer pulled out from working with a particular sentence. This eliminates a lot of the frantic-ness of last minute bunting, and the feelings of personal inadequacy which often accompany such selfless acts.

That's the idea. Who's with us on this? I think anybody who has seen a prompt they liked only to be told that no, it's gone and you can't have it, can relate to where we're coming from.

I have some survey questions regarding interest, content, and mod-stuff like timing, duration, ratings and postings. It would be great to hear from anyone who is interested.
