64 - life and death

[Public; he just doesn't care enough to filter it]

I remembered a man who would sacrifice his own life to save his village. Their crops weren't enough to keep the village afloat. Year after year they tried different techniques, but nothing worked. The village was rumored, though, to have something called a "Goodbye Harvest" happen every once in a great while, when the fields would be bursting with full, healthy grain, and in return, one life would be taken. I heard the rumors, and went there.

As I had suspected, the cause of this phenomenon were related to my trade. A magical seed that people before this man, Saishu, had used and told no one else about. He had used it only once before, when all hope had seemed lost...and paid the price. The life that was taken was his wife's. The seed that he had planted and which had caused the fields to be fruitful appeared in her mouth as an extra tooth, which he took and kept. He swore to only use the seed once more.

I found out what he had done, and tested him in conversation. I wanted to see the motivation behind someone with such power. Was it right to sacrifice one life for the greater good? I pointed out to him that if they would all leave the village for one year, burn the fields to start it all over again, and come back, they could make it. We both knew, though, that none of the villagers would return if they did that.

I noticed, too late, that he had been poisoning himself. They said that the seed took the life of whoever was weakest. The rumors were true, and the tooth that he had planted its second time appeared in his mouth while he lay in his death bed.

I knew there was one way, though. I saved him, by feeding him back the magical seed which had invaded his body in the first place. The properties of the magical seed were a condensed form of the Water of Life. He lived, and did not die.

He wanted to watch his village grow. He wanted to see what would happen to his village, and the land that he loved.

Were Priscilla's hands always so small? Her cheeks, so round?

I... When I look at her, I see their faces.

She can't be a day over 18...

What am I doing.
