Mugura are a kind of underground mushi that, to put it simply, act as the nerves and veins of a mountain. A skilled Mushishi can call them up and, by sending their consciousness into it, race through the roots of plants and trees to detect what the Mushishi cannot alone, however far away in the root system it may be.
As for what mushi are, well... They're like mysterious neighbors. No more, no less.

Not quite. I'm an expert on mushi, thus the title; I'm something like a doctor and merchant put together, if you're curious about how the job title works.
There aren't as many mushi here in Memento Eden as back at home, but there's enough that I try to keep my expertise sharp.
