julietm gave me this prompt a couple days ago, and I wasn't sure at first what to do with it, because I'm still getting a feel for this pairing. And then, because it's me, I figured I'd jump right in with some babyfic.

She can hear them talking from the next room, a quiet, private conversation that only just carries into the kitchen where she's putting the groceries away.
She pokes her head into the room and stops still, wishing she could frame this moment to tuck away and keep. He's lying on his stomach on the floor, watching the baby start to crawl. She hauls her little body a couple feet and collapses on her belly, turning her head to stare at him, wide eyes dark and inquisitive, and then she babbles at him and waits for a response.
He's fluent by now and he answers her, a string of nonsense words in his calm, deep voice, breaking off with a smile when she interrupts him. He listens patiently, reaching out to brush his thumb over her tiny hand, and they stay curled on the floor together, two peas in a pod.
