I couldn’t decide which bit to quote back to you because it would really have to be the whole thing! But . . .

”He feels awed and privileged to witness the creation of the intricate, Baroque-inspired masterpiece.”

Yes, I guess Sherlock would definitely inspire awe - for John - in anything he undertakes.

”He bites his sandwich; he holds out a bag. His gestures and attitudes are striking compositions of shape and form.”

I can hardly believe he decided to something so mundane as eating, and encourage John, too!!

”“Not at all. The orchestra also engaged me to find their soloist for them: I wrote this piece with a very particular friend in mind.””

Oh how lovely that he’s already thinking of John as his “particular friend” - even though John takes a while to work it out!

I'm so glad you're liking this one, and it's interesting to see which bits make the most impression. The sandwich! Of course he has to fuel "the transport" from time to time, but he's milking the necessity for all it's worth here with layers of motives. The way he positions himself dramatically as he eats was inspired by his contemplation of the cabbie's pill in ASiP (which I really admired). Also similarly, he's "being clever" and motivating John to react.

“Just your ordinary garden-variety wanker, then,” concludes John.

“I suppose so.”

I love the confusion here!

John suspects that he might be blushing. Not very manly, he regrets. His voice has a slight strangled quality to it as he asks, “A dear friend of yours, you say?”

“A particular friend, is what I said. But, yes. He is rather dear to me.”

D'awww!
