So tonight after visiting Joanne, I ran into some guy on the street that was asking me for money for some food. Normally I would say I didn't have any money. But then I was feeling a little generous since UT Dallas is supposedly offering me a scholarship to go there. So I agree to go to Store24 with him to get some food for him and "his family," ( Read more... )

I think giving food to panhandlers is always better than giving money. :) Especially during the cold weather.

yeah. i say food is better than just straight money. i've seen homeless people asking for money for food, but when someone offers them a sandwich or a drink, they act like jerks.

as much as i hate to keep walking by someone. . . i almost always do. . . i tell myself that i volunteer, which is somewhat the equivalent to giving them money. because. .. you're right. you never know what they will use the money for. they could use it to buy crack. . . and what's the use in helping them out like that? but then again, our welfare system isn't working out too well. . . and i think it's so hard to keep walking past someone when you know they are sitting outside in the cold. . . freezing their hungry butts off. you did the right thing.

my personal opinion is that is it is better to give food to people on the streets, rather than give money. All I can say is that you're lucky the guy didn't buy more than ~20 bucks of stuff.
