Relish at the pleasure of sorting

1. Your name: Hannah
2. Your age: 27

3. What makes you get up in the morning?
Quite literally talking, I suddenly snap out of my slumber early in the morning when the sun hasn’t even risen yet. I still haven’t figured out if it’s actually some sort of insomnia that I’m having, in which case it’d be the daily stress and worries or just simply I’ve slept enough hence I’m perfectly fit and ready to face the day.
But to be honest, due to some… complications, my family and I live apart. The day we meet is what I live for.

5. What do you think of either Voldemort or Snape as a character?
HBP revealed quite interesting facts about both of them, indeed. Voldemort’s childhood with such detail was something I didn’t honestly expected so it was quite a revelation. However, the argument on Voldemort turning to the dark side was a tad weak for my liking. I don’t think his disappointment towards his mother really justifies such malice and adoration for the absolute domination. As JKR said thru’ Dumbledore, life is about choices like Harry did while the sorting. Why then Voldmort, or little Tom Riddle, decided to go evil? Where did that come from? Why did he choose that path? Sure it was dark magic that he needed to perform to beat mortality, but the malice was always there. So if JKR’s theory is something to go by, what made Tom Riddle be so malicious since he was a kid? Otherwise, she’s contradicting herself by setting Voldemort as evil with no choice to be good since the beginning.

Snape on the contrary, we remain with more questions than answers in HBP. I was hoping feverishly to know more about his intentions or his past; especially why he turned to an OotP spy and why Dumbledore was so firmly convinced he was, in fact, loyal. I know he’s got a good reason to believe in him. I wonder if it has to do with Snape being a half-blood? But alas, looks like we’ll have to wait till the next book. But after HBP, the fandom went into an uproar of theories after theories about Snape’s real identity. I personally liked to believe that it was upon agreement between Snape and Dumbledore that he acted that way in the Astronomy Tower, and his true loyalty sill lay with the OotP. However, JKR always has something in store for us in every instalment. So far, Snape has captivated me for his secretiveness and mysticism.

6. What are your other passions/ fandoms excluding Harry Potter?
Drawing. Actually, I can say that I got into HP because there was so much support for fandom artists and I felt like I could spread my wings at long last. My art style has never been truly accepted among my family and/or friends because it isn’t particularly well known or popular among them. So I was rather neglected for a long while. I’ve always loved drawing a lot and HP fandom has given me the sky I so yearned to fly in.

7. Who do you relate to most within the Harry Potter series?
Why, there are no characters my age that I can thoroughly relate myself into *snicker* However, in HBP, I especially felt for Draco. I’ve always loved fanon!Draco, the depth he could achieve in fanfiction is simply bewitching. However, in the last book, JKR actually gave him character depth and it was utter glee for me as his fangirl. His three dimensional characterisation was absolutely enticing, beginning with Narcissa’s worries and Draco running Voldemort’s errands under threats. And the stress he went thru’ and Myrtle’s revelations of him crying, crying for Merlin’s sakes! The fact that he wavered at Dumbledore’s offer and was unable to cast the deadly spell. If only the Death Eaters delayed a tad bit longer…! I can’t help but wish.

8. What is your favourite novel (ex. Harry Potter)?
Hmph. I don’t know where to begin. Let’s see… My all time favourite must be Garcia Marquez’s ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’. The magic of the non-magical world is sublime and fantastic. Another favourite of mine is ‘The Lord of the Rings’. It is the first novel that made me teary eyed. The third book (The Return of the King) was magnificent and Peter Jackson truly did justice to it. I also love historical fictions, among them there’s Anne Rice’s ‘A Cry to Heaven’ and Hitomi Fujimoto’s numerous books which you haven’t heard of, I’m sure, but I’ll spare you the torture.

9. Would you run for prefect or Head Boy/ Girl if you were at Hogwarts?
Merlin forgive me, no. I’m content with being at the backstage, the hidden strength that’ll take a while to notice. I’m rather introverted and it takes a while for me to trust thers, to open up. I’m no natural leader although my zodiac sign says otherwise, I’ve never been one. It’s not in me to order people around or flaunt in front of them because of a shiny badge. I’d like to do whatever I fancy in my own space than worrying about leadership and whatnot.

10. Who is your least favorite character - why?
I do not favour any one character over others because there’s always a reason behind the existence of each one of them. However, there was a character that I thought was quite dull when compared to others. And that was Cho Chang because her characterisation was the least interesting. I know she was meant to be a normal girl, everything Harry yearned to have and didn't have, a helluva ordinary, boring life. But in a novel where everybody’s got a very well defined and brilliant characterisation, hers was way too average, it just didn’t shine. It dulled her among the others. That doesn’t make her my least favourite, but just my thoughts.

11. What do you consider the key qualities of the four Hogwarts houses? (Describe why you think this and elaborate!)
Because JKR once revealed that each house, in fact, represents each of the four elements and as such, my descriptions are based upon them.
Gryffindor - Fire: guardianship (protectiveness), passion, resurrection. An indomitable spirit that never dies or give in.
Slytherin - Water: captivating and treacherous all at once. You can’t let your guards down, it can turn against you any moment.
Ravenclaw - Air: capricious, a conductor to the greater wisdom, freedom.
Hufflepuff - Earth: firmness, stubbornness, certain explosiveness when too much energy is stored.
House unity: Now, I know I’m digressing but this is NOT entirely beside the point and hear me out. As each house represents one of the four elements, it means they are ALL necessary for the foundation of the earth and in order to achieve harmony, they must unite and come together so they mean more than a simple element that by itself it may not have much sense. No one is less or more, better or worse, evil or good than the other. They are equally important and unique in their own fashion. Each has blessings as well as destructiveness which only depends on the use or intetion you give it to them. The four elements exist to balance each other out. They need each other to become a greater force and bring the world equilibrium. I think it’s important to keep in mind why there are four houses and not five or three, and what they mean together.

12. Where and how would you like to see yourself (job, country) in a few years time?
Now I can lie to you and make up any sort of folly. However I’m going to be blatantly honest and say, excuse me, but I’m not going to answer this. The reason’s highly personal that involves me and my family’s direct future and decisions we're about to make which are affecting us quite severely at the moment. I cannot pretend nonchalance and hence irresponsibility by just answering whatever blabber when the matter is a lot more serious at this point in our lives than a mere fandom whim. So sorry, no answering of private RL matters.

13. If you were a teacher at Hogwarts, which subject would you teach and why? (Extra thumbs up for original submissions - feel free to invent your own magical subject!)
As I am actually teaching at university, I love the idea of teaching very much. Here are three of the subjects I came up with:
Magical Art History - I’ve always loved Art History and I have a firm conviction that history is better taught thru’ art (visual references) than just numbers and letters. Why, the ancient portraits of Hogwarts certainly must have an interesting anecdote or two they’d love to share, I’m sure.

Comparative Muggle Technology and Wizarding Magic - Haven’t you ever wonder what the reactions would be of the Wizarding folks when they know about Internet and all the wireless communication devices? It’s so going to be fun.

Worldwide Wizarding Cultures - I was raised multicultural myself. It’s exciting to learn different cultures, customs, languages, etc. It gives you different perspectives of things and certainly a wider point of view. Definitely something I personally would love to learn and also teach. Just imagine, Oriental shamanism, Mayan, Aztec and Inca cultures mysticism, Japanese Onmyojtusu, African Voodoo, Eastern Alchemy…

14. Would you be a Mudblood, Halfblood or Pureblood, based on your own personality? Give original reasons for this calculation excluding specific House Traits.
Mudblood? What? Are you some sort of high-class prejudiced purist or some such? Pffft. For the record, I'd rather use Muggle-born rather than that derogatory naming. That said I’d be a Halfblood. Seeing as I love Muggle technology so much and actually wanting to teach the Wizarding world a comparative lesson, I can’t contradict myself and say I’m a Pureblood now, can I? Also, I find it a parallel in my real self being a Halfblood.

15. What improvements would you follow through if you were Minister of Magic?
I’m sick and tired of seeing bastards rotted to their bones with corruption and power domination in every turn of the page. I’d refuse to cooperate with said decayed institutions, as Harry did. I’d do the best in my community I live in, helping orphanages, hospitals, sanatoriums, asyliums or any other social work that might need a helping hand. Something totally independent to the government, that's for sure. Personal improvement is where we should start from before hopping on to greater jobs such as that one.

16. What do you consider your most prominent qualities, either good or bad and why?
Call it stubbornness or determination. That’s my quality as is my weakness. Why you ask? When some traits get you into trouble, that’s when you know it’s a prominent trait. If it lets you out of trouble, that's ingenuity more like, let's not confuse that.
Another of my qualities could be called inquisitiveness or passionate. When I want to know something, I'll do everything in my hands to learn it. I get overly passionate and obsessed at times that I forget time and meals until I achieve what I want. When there's no more to learn, then my interest cools down and I move on to something else.

17. If you could change something of the Harry Potter series, what would you want to change?
I’m a slasher, mind, so if there can only be one whim, just one, to sate in me, it sure is going to be that: to pair up Harry with Draco. Sorry canon girls, but that’s just me being my honest-to-god me.
But other than that, I wouldn’t change a thing. Only I’d love it if JKR elaborates the first book a bit more (too short for my liking). So far so good, though.

18. Do you feel you can and will contribute to this community in an original way?
Art’s always an original contribution, yes? If something along the lines is considered original contribution, then certainly, count me in. I’m not here to argue but to bring in the house unity idea as the sorting hat warned, as well. I’m here to share, not to divide.

19. How did you hear of this community?
I saw it on one of my daily digests.

20. Now is your chance: choose a house you would prefer not to be sorted into. (Include rational arguments, though.)
Again, I don’t think any less or any more of each house. I believe in house unity, not in house division. We all have a little from every house. Only certain traits come more tinged than the others at times. I believe in complimenting each other, not standing out for your houses.
