04. What do you wish to accomplish in life?
Just general happiness, I suppose. It's really difficult for me to be any more specific since I'm exactly sure where I want to go in life. I'm going to college in the fall, but I'm going in as an undecided major. My ultimate dream would to be work in music somehow, probably as a music/choir teacher. I'm also very interested in American Sign Language interpretation, but I haven't learned enough ASL to decide whether I'd like to do that yet. I guess what I want to accomplish is just to have a good career and a happy life full of experiences. I'm not going to lie, I think I would need money to be happy as well. I don't need to be rich, but I need money to be able to do what I want. One of my biggest dreams is to travel the world, and without sufficient funds, this would be impossible. It would be nice to find love as well, but I don't get too concerned with it and it's not truly my top priority.
05. You are crossing a river when Death appears before you and offers you any gift you want. You cannot refuse. What do you ask for? Why?
I hate to admit it, but I would want the resurrection stone. I would not be strong enough to refuse that offer. Seeing as I don't even believe in an afterlife, and I therefore believe I won't ever see my fallen loved ones again, this item would be truly magical to me. I can't even imagine being able to see my deceased family and friends whenever I want or need them; it would be so wonderful.
06. What makes a person deserving of your respect?
Honestly, just being a good person in general. Mostly I respect anyone who practices what they preach and are not hypocritical. As long as someone sticks by their beliefs wholeheartedly, I kind of have to respect that, as long as their beliefs aren't completely ridiculous and utterly immoral. It's not very difficult to gain my respect, I basically respect anyone who respects me.
07. What is your greatest fear?
My greatest fear is forgetting everything that has ever happened to me, like getting amnesia of some sort. Which is a bit odd, since if it ever happened, I wouldn't remember I was ever afraid of it. I just have so many memories, both good and bad, and I can't imagine what my life would be like if I had to move forward without them. My past experiences are what define who I am, and it frightens me to think that they could so easily disappear. For this reason, I take pictures and videos like crazy when I'm doing something important so I can sort of document it just in case.
08. You and your friends are going camping when the Snatchers ambush you. What do you do?
I'd come up with a lie to try to save myself and my friends. Fighting them and actually winning seems unrealistic since I'm assuming we'd probably be outnumbered. My best bet would be to simply try and persuade them that they have the wrong people and that we shouldn't be captured. I think I'm quite good with words in situations like this, so I hope I'd be able to come up with something plausible.
09. What do you think are your top five positive characteristics?
01. Optimism: I try to see the bright side of each and every situation. I always stay positive and I always believe that things are going to get better. If I weren't like this, I feel like I would just crash emotionally. I have to stay optimistic to keep myself going and get through the day.
02. Passion: I am extremely passionate about the things I love. I can get very emotional about things that mean a lot to me and I can cry pretty easily, but I don't consider this a negative trait as some would. I simply feel very strongly about the people and things I care about, and I think being so passionate is a good thing because it is what motivates me.
03. Humor: I consider myself a pretty funny person, truly! I know it's not really coming across in this application, but that's because a lot of these questions are pretty serious. I really am hilarious within my group of friends and I absolutely love making people laugh. I'm extremely sarcastic and my humor can actually be pretty harsh - a lot of the things that make me laugh are making fun of people, as bad as that sounds! It's all in good fun though, and I usually just poke fun at my friends who know I'm just joking.
04. Intelligence: I'm not saying this to sound conceited or arrogant, but I think I am pretty intelligent and I do consider it one of my best qualities. My intelligence is the reason I'm going off to a great university this fall and it's going to help me graduate school and hopefully get me a good job so I can be successful and happy.
05. Outgoing: I am an extremely social and talkative person and I think this definitely helps me a lot. I find it very easy to make friends and connect with others and I love meeting new people. While I do enjoy alone time once in a while, I can get bored really quickly by myself and almost always need the company of others.]
10. What do you think are your top five negative characteristics?
01. Laziness: I am so lazy when it comes to getting things done I don't really care for, like schoolwork and cleaning. I will jump at the chance to do things I love, such as theater and singing, but when it comes to those necessary tasks that just aren't so fun, I just put them off for eternity and find something else to do instead. In the end, this always ends up basically screwing me over, but I still don't change my ways.
02. Arrogance: I admit that sometimes I can be a bit condescending and arrogant. Definitely not on purpose, as I don't really think I'm that great - sometimes I can just get a bit of a know-it-all attitude without realizing it until someone points it out to me, and then I make an effort to act less egotistical.
03. Honesty: I know this is usually considered a good thing, but sometimes my honestly can be absolutely brutal. I personally appreciate when people are completely honest with me, but I know some others don't and I can forget that. I have a bad tendency to hurt people's feelings once in a while by simply being too frank with them.
04. Nostalgia: Sometimes this is a good quality, as I do enjoy looking back on the past and remembering it fondly. But other times it can really be a burden. I sometimes get so focused on the past that I forget to live in the present or look to the future. I'm just so busy reminiscing and thinking about how good things used to be that I'm sort of wasting time. I can't really think of a single time in my life where I didn't wish I could go back in time and relive something over again. I seem to always think that the past is vastly superior to the present, which kind of makes no sense. I wish I could work on seizing the moment much more.
05. Selfishness: While I do consider myself a caring person, I can be extremely selfish at times. I tend to consciously put myself above others a lot, mostly because I do feel that it is sometimes important to care for yourself first and foremost. It's not that I don't have compassion for my friends and family or that I don't love them - of course I do, and I will absolutely help them whenever possible. But I think it's just most logical to put yourself first sometimes. I guess this is something that other people view more negatively than I do, since I don't think it's really that bad to care about myself quite a lot.

11. Who is your favourite character in the Harry Potter series?
Can I have a tie? Because I do love these characters equally, just in different ways. Firstly, Fred and George Weasley. Which is technically two characters, but whatever, I'm obviously not going to favor one. Their humor is one of the things that absolutely makes these books for me. Everything they do makes me laugh out loud and I feel like, if I had known them, I would absolutely be friends with them. I share the same exact sense of humor. I love joking with my friends and pulling pranks on them. Of course, it's not on as an elaborate level as that of the twins, but I still consider myself a jokester. I also appreciate the fact that while the twins are characters of comic relief, they are also extremely protective of those they love and will do anything to help them. They're not just one-dimensional funny characters - they are awesome people who are compassionate and caring as well.
And secondly, I absolutely love Albus Dumbledore. I think part of the reason I like him so much is simply because I find him so intriguing. Even with all of the backstory that was explained in book seven, I feel like there's still so much about Dumbledore that we don't know. Also, his lines in the book are the ones that I find the most poignant and the most true. He is really the philosopher of the series, and I really appreciate that. I spend a lot of time thinking about life and its purpose and stuff like that, so it really interests me. If I could sit down and have a conversation with any character from the books, it would definitely be him, because I just feel like he has so much insight to offer.
12. Who is your least favourite character in the series? Do not pick Umbridge. She was written to be hated.
This is easy - Peter Pettigrew. Every single thing about him just rubs me utterly the wrong way. First of all, we have the main reason everyone hates him - turning in Lily and James' location to Voldemort. This just shows how weak and pathetic he is and how he can't stay loyal or true to anyone, not even his closest friends. And in general, just everything about him really creeps me out. It's just this inexplicable thing - everything down to the way he looks, to the silver hand, to the fact that he's literally a rat. He's the kind of guy you would definitely run away from if you saw him on the street while it's dark out.
13. Do ends justify the means? How much are you willing to sacrifice for the greater good?
The ends absolutely justify the means, as long as the result is important enough for the sacrifice that's being made. I would sacrifice myself, to a certain extent and depending on the situation. Would I die for one random stranger? Definitely not. But hundreds or thousands? I'm not sure. Would I put myself at risk to help those I love? Absolutely. It's a hard situation to put myself in without ever really being there. I can't lie and say I would be willing to selflessly give up my life for others no matter what.
14. Each Hogwarts founder owned a prized possession. Imagine that these possessions were symbolic of these founders’ values. Explain how these objects might exemplify the traits of their owner’s house.
• Godric Gryffindor’s Sword: This one is a perfect symbol. Bravery, courage and strength. The sword can be used to defend both yourself and those you love. I feel it also represents a Gryff's willingness to just jump right into battle, to be courageous and not hold back.
• Salazar Slytherin’s Locket: To keep something shut in a locket is to hide it, to keep it a secret. To me, a locket seems rather sneaky and sly. When worn, it is in plain view, yet it is hiding something so efficiently and so easily. It is also so close to the wearer and is therefore easily protected by them.
• Rowena Ravenclaw’s Diadem: Intelligence. The diadem, a crown atop the head, represents the value and sacredness of the mind and how important it is in the eyes of the Ravenclaws. The mind is their most valued and prized "possession," and wearing the diadem is showing off this asset.
• Helga Hufflepuff’s Cup: This was the hardest one for me, but I think the Hufflepuff trait the cup most aligns with is sharing and inclusiveness. The cup is something that can be used by everyone and anyone, which is something Puffs value very much.
15. Describe the canon house qualities that you feel accurately reflect you. Please try to include traits from each of the four houses.
• Gryffindor: I do feel I am brave/courageous, to an extent. I am not sure what it would take for me to risk my life for someone or anything like that, but I am brave enough in the sense that I will speak my mind whenever I feel the need and to stick up for my friends and family when they need it.
• Slytherin: Cunning. I don't like lying very often, but I can and will when necessary and I can do so with ease. I am often able to talk myself out of sticky situations and convince people to be on my side of a situation.
• Ravenclaw: Intelligence, and a general desire to learn. I love learning, for the most part. Perhaps not in subjects I don't like so much (*cough*math and science*cough*), but in history and english? Absolutely. I try to keep up on current events as much as possible because I want to be knowledgeable and smart, and knowing a lot gives me a sense of pride and accomplishment.
• Hufflepuff: Inclusiveness. I really am open-minded and willing to give everyone a chance. I don't consider myself above anyone else or anything and will give anyone a chance to be my friend if they want to get to know me.
16. Which house do you feel the least affinity towards?
This is tough, because I do see a bit of myself in each and every house, which is why I still have trouble saying which house I am in (even though I have been sorted in a fashion similar to this before). However, I suppose I probably feel the least affinity towards Hufflepuff. They're honestly just a bit too nice for me I think. They're so kind towards everyone, so uncompetitive and so modest. While I try my best to stay grounded, I'm pretty confident in myself and my abilities and I do like to show them off when I can. But I definitely still see myself with Hufflepuff qualities like open-mindedness and loyalty, which is why this question was very tough for me.
