SORTING GUIDELINES
APPLICANTS
1. Copy and paste into Word the application found at the bottom of this page.
2. Your answers should be concise, a brief paragraph. We like to see that you've put some care and thought into your answers.
3. Give sorters an opportunity to get to know you. Do not push for any house.
4. Skipping questions - you do not. Otherwise, how can we sort you if you tell us nothing about you?
5. tYpe iLke tIs and suffer Avada Kedavra. If we can’t understand you, we can’t sort you, so proofread.
6. Join
sortinghallows before submitting your application. Do not try to join any other Hallows communities until you have been sorted into a house.
7. Your journal must be at least one month old to submit an application.
8. Please include ‘elder wand’ in the title of your application, so we know that you have read the rules.
9. The application is already formatted for you. Do not change the coding. Remember to place it into HTML tab when you are submitting your application.
10. Once your application is released from the queue, you may fix grammar and formatting errors. However, you may not switch context of the application.
11. You are allowed to respond to the sorter's votes.
12. Deleting your application: go for it! But you will not be allowed to apply to the community again.
13. If you feel that the sorters are not being courteous in their votes, please contact the moderators.
14. Each sorting round lasts ten days.
15. Hadmistress may veto an application if she feels the applicant may cause problems in the community.
16. Once you are sorted into a house a shiny post will appear giving you directions. You will be able to join Hogwarts Hallows.
17. Students sorted into a house may make an appeal at the Ministry Hallows if they want to be re-sorted.
SORTERS
1. Be polite to the applicants and be respectful of your fellow sorters’ judgement. Writing an eloquent vote to convince others of your point of view is acceptable, insinuating that you are displeased with some votes you have seen above is not.
2. Put your house in a subject line. Delete your post and re-post your vote if you have forgotten.
3. Bold your votes and make them clear. Moderators should not doubt what you have voted and where it is. Ravenclaw with some puff <- good format. ravenpuff <- not very good.
4. You may change your vote before the application is stamped. Delete your previous vote if you do.
5. You may use sigtags. Sigtags cannot exceed 600px in total.
5. In addition to house votes, the community has Squib and Troll vote.
6. When to Squib the applicants:
a) this ravenslythergryffinpuff hybrid doesn't make sense - conflicting vibes
b) too little information - you cannot get a vibe
c) 'and then Hagrid flew away to the Moon with Buckbeak' - you are not convinced that the applicant knows the books
d) every question says that the applicant loves green and Voldemort - house push
7. Squibbed applicants may re-apply to the community after one month.
8. Troll votes are reserved for special snowflakes. They go to ‘does not play well with the others' applicants. This means bashing and disrespect for the rules and community. Trolled applicants will not be allowed to re-apply.
9. Should house-pushing be trolled or squibbed? Use your judgement. If the applicant thinks that bashing Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs is a ticket into Slytherin then he falls into a troll category. If you cannot get a good vibe because he is trying to forward some of his personality traits while hiding others then this is squib worthy. Same rule applies for the fangirl radar.
10. Remember a few guidelines:
a) Try to be objective. Do not troll or squib applicants because you do not agree with their least favourite character or because you don’t like their username. Canon can be interpreted differently. We have seen Pettigrew listed as the favourite character and argued brilliantly.
b) No one expects you to roll over, and sometimes snarky things do come out with trollsome applicants. However, don’t flame, don’t call names. Keep it classy. Remember, mods will be very sad to reprimand you. Too many reprimands may get you temporarily or forever removed from the community.
c) Do not place the applicant you wouldn’t want to have for yourself into another house.
11. Debates about matters that do not relate to Harry Potter such as religion, do not belong in your votes. Also, do not squib or troll applicants based merely on a different opinion on these matters. (although such stuff shouldn’t be rambled on too lengthily in the application either).
Here is the application. Copy the stuff in this box.
