WHO: Vash the Stampede, Light Yagami
TONE: lulz, d00m, more lulz
WHEN: 26 May, during the water fight
WHERE: Hogwarts, front lawn
WHAT: All Light wanted to do was cross the front lawn in peace. Vash and his epic water fight had other ideas.
STATUS: completed.

Lately it seemed like the whole student body had become aware that Hogwarts was actually a school, and this mere fact made Light a very busy person. Not many people chose to take Arithmancy, but for those who did-- it was easily one of the most difficult subjects. And of course, they only realized now soon OWLS were approaching. It was in this sour mood that Light stepped out into the Great Lawn, Arithmancy textbook in hand, mumbling to himself.

It just so happened, however, that the entire front lawn and most of the courtyard had become the proving grounds for some impromptu water olympics. Jets of water sprayed at random out of the lake, falling on the heads of screaming, laughing students, and blobs of water, Charmed to hold their shape until they touched something human, were floating and splashing in every direction. Somebody had gotten into the broom shed and Quaffles were being thrown about indiscriminately. All in all, it was not the place for a quiet, uninterrupted walk.

Light was so lost in his own world however, that he noticed none of the shenanigans going on. That was on until, one of the enchanted blobs of water crashed right into him exploding; covering him in water from head to toe.

"WATCH OUT!"

The yell came moments too late, and the airborne water splashed aside to reveal a creature from the uttermost depths... or at least, that was what he resembled at first sight. Vash had been cavorting with the students for the better part of an hour, and his bright red robes were soaked and muddied from head to foot. His glasses were missing, there was seaweed in his hair, and he hadn't had this much fun in what seemed like forever.

"I notice," he announced grandly, "that you're not wearing your mask or carrying a Grand Flag of the Flying Kneazels. That makes this area a Splash Zone. Defend yourself, sir!"

The glare that Light gave Vash at the moment, it could kill. He quickly recovered however, and with the closest thing to a smile he could manage at the time he asked: "What are you doing?"

For a very chilling half-second, Vash felt an overpowering sense of deja vu, but Light's expression was so fleeting that he didn't have time to associate it with the memory of the last person who had stared at him that way.

It was just as well. If he remembered right, this was the young TA with whom his good friend Mikami had taken up lately. What with Vash's recent absence, he'd never had a chance to really get acquainted with the younger man. Putting on his best I-are-important voice, he swallowed his inner butterflies and stayed with the game.

"We have embarked on a noble crusade," he boomed, "to bring the blessings of love and peace to the world around us!" Winking mischievously, he briefly dropped out of character. "Since you're all wet anyway, my friend, how about joining in the fun?"

"..." Light was speechless. Was this Professor actually serious? After a few moments of contemplation in which it took all of Light's willpower from calling Vash a lunatic-- "Professor," he began. "You do know that OWLS are approaching, correct? I don't think this is the proper time for a...water fight."

There was nothing Vash took so seriously as having fun. It was what made the world go round (after love, peace, and donuts, of course). Blissfully unaware of how close he'd come to being strangled, or at least flattened with deadly sarcasm, he nodded vigorously, a cheesy grin spreading across his face. "I know! This is just to help everyone unwind a little from the horrible stress of exam time!" He waved his arms, splashing more water about. The effect was not unlike being shaken at by an overenthusiastic Great Dane.

Light visibly twitched as more water splattered across his face. He took a very deep breath, in which he calmly moved wet, brown hair out of his eyes. "Unwind." He said slowly. Choosing to switch subjects, as he was reaching his limit on just how much stupidityhe could take-- "I'm sorry, I'll have to politely decline. I have many papers to grade." He looked at the now soaked Arithmancy textbook, resuming in an overly sweet tone, " Forgive me, but I'm not familiar with who you are and what you teach?"

"Can't you do them later?" wheedled Vash. "It's a really pretty day out here!" Noticing the dripping textbook, he winced a bit, but figured it wasn't so bad.... a quick drying charm and it could be set aside to await the end of the campaign.

Light's change of tone surprised him. Maybe the guy wasn't so cold after all? At any rate, he seemed pleasant enough now. "Oh! Ah, yeah, I teach Divination since last year. My name is Valentinez al Kalanella Zihag Shuhi la Boherez, but everyone calls me Vash!" (Inwardly, he was cackling. He hadn't had to pull out that alias in a long, long time.)

A blink was all the response he got to the ridiculous long name. "Light Yagami. I TA for Arithmancy." Why did the name Vash sound so familiar? He looked at Vash with renewed interest.

Vash smiled. It was like something out of a children's picture book -- one of the cute ones with flowers and laughing babies. "I thought so -- Mikami's said a lot about you lately! Now, are you ready to take up the challenge of helping all these people learn the precious value of LOVE AND PEACE? Or...." and now he was back in character, twirling an imaginary mustache.... "do you think you're man enough for this?"

Light tilted his head. "You know Mikami?" All thought of Mikami disappeared however, at Vash's next statement. Something inside of Light clicked. "Are you implying I can't beat you?" He raised an eyebrow.

Vash had been nodding at Light's first remark -- of course he knew Mikami; anyone with such a strong dedication to bringing peace to the world couldn't have slipped through his radar -- but the next question drove the answer out of his mind. He'd faced down a lot of strong-willed individuals over the years, and it looked like Light was another one. With a challenging look, Vash drew himself up to his full height and reeled in his catch. "Are you implying that maybe you can?"

"Of course I can." Light stated, with his characteristic smirk. "What are the rules to this game then?" He laid down the textbook, adjusting his robes.

"There's only one rule. Well, two, but really only one." The biggest rule was "nobody gets hurt," but since they were, after all, standing in a crowd of excited children, Vash felt there was no need to belabor that one. He paused to give Light a chance to get his book out of danger.

"And that rule is?" With the textbook out of the way, he ran a hand through his hair, awaiting Vash's response.

"The rule is.... you never use the same rule twice!" And with that, Vash dived to one side and slapped his hands into the nearest water bubble, spraying it straight at Light.

Light tutted, and pulled out his wand casting a quick spell which reflected the water back at Vash. "That's fine, but how do you win?"

"AAAAH!" Ducking backwards to avoid the water, Vash nearly hit his head on the ground, but managed through dint of wild contortion to regain his footing. Oddly enough, only a few stray drops reached him. "That's easy," he called back, pulling out his own wand and calling up a long loop of water that descended toward Light like a lariat. "You have fun."

A twirl of his wand again, and the loop of water soared upwards turning into something resembling fireworks, spraying water over them both. "You can't have a game without a clear determining factor to crown the winner."

"Sure you can!" Vash's shield was up, and the students had started to clear a space for them -- it wasn't every day staff members duelled on the front lawn. "It's called the spirit of cooperation. The winner is the person who wins. Why do you have to make it so complicated?" He circled to the left. With any luck, he could get Light within maneuvering distance of the lake.

"I'm an alumni of Ravenclaw. We like to make things complicated." Light said with a smile. Without strict rules to guide him, and a sizable amount of students watching him, Light was determined to win in a way which no one could deny even if there were no official rules. He moved closer prowling like a cat, staying just outside of Vash's range.

Unaware of his opponent's invidious intent, Vash bounced lightly on the balls of his feet. He was starting to get Light's nature -- the visible side of it, anyway: an intense, driven personality, from the serious way he was taking their game. It was definitely a trait to be appreciated. Intense people put so much life into everything they did -- and were also tremendous fun to wind up.

"Yeah," he replied, "but have you ever noticed? Sometimes, things are really, really simple." And with that, he charged straight at Light, waving his arms wildly and sending a near tidal wave of water up ahead of him.

"Things are never as simple as they app-" He was cut off by Vash's sudden charge, and the incoming tidal wave. "Oy, what are you trying to pull!?!?" Light's only option at this point was to dodge to the right, dangerously close to edge of the lake. He muttered another offensive spell which tipped Vash off balance.

That was okay. Off-balance was Vash's normal state, and besides, the lake was right there. Pinwheeling his arms in a futile effort to catch his footing, Vash stumbled straight into Light, their shoulders colliding in a spray of floating water.

Light realized his mistake too late. Vash's only option was t-- Eyes widened in shock, he hit the surface of the lake, water cascading around them both as they plunged underwater. Thankfully the water was not too cold as the summer seasoning had just begun, but swimming in soaking wet robes was still a difficult task. He swam to the surface, the look on his face absolutely priceless-- it wasn't possible for a person to look more grumpy than Light.

"AAAAAAHAHAHAHA!!" Vash fountained up to the surface as well, his own heavy robes billowing about him -- despite the heat and the day's activities, he'd never actually taken them off. "Sorry about that, I kinda lost my balance!" And as if to give the lie to his own words, he grinned and splashed Light right in the face.

Light sputtered, spitting out the water from both landing in the lake, and the splash from Vash. "It's alright." Breathe deeply. Don't lose your cool here. He kept repeating to himself over and over. He swam over to the shore, pausing only at the water's edge to quickly turn around and splash in face himself, in a childish display.

Vash rocked back, sputtering as the water hit his face. Laughing, he clambered out of the lake, ready to hold out a hand if Light needed one -- although it was doubtful that he would. He'd never pitched someone in the lake this fast before, and was a little sorry it had happened so soon. Still, he was glad to have finally met this mysterious person Mikami had been so occupied with. "You got the idea really fast!"

Light shook his head, he needed no help. Climbing out of the lake, he paused in wringing out his robes. "I learn fast." And there was an emote that wasn't forced, that devilish smirk of his. "I need to be going now, but I'm sure we'll be in touch." He needed to get away before he said anything he would regret.

"Sure!" Vash waved after him, grinning like a loon. "Stay dry now!" And without a second thought, he threw himself back into the general melee.
