“About five coming off the north end,” Stephanie said, quite possibly to herself. She was hoping O could hear her on the other end of the line, but Livewire’s henchmen (and since when did Livewire have henchmen, anyway?) had set off a pinch that had all electronics in a five block radius on the fritz. “Tazers, no guns. Batwoman. He knew already that it was Stephanie. Kate Kane had come to Tot's lighthouse as Arsenal, looking for Renee. They'd spoken a bit about Gotham and his father and Dick, and then she'd told him she'd passed her mantle to Stephanie Brown.
Of all people. Damian had stared at her for a long moment. Oh, Stephanie was more than capable. But if he couldn't be Batman, why could she be Batwoman? Surely her issues went far deeper than his ( ... )

Finishing the remaining guy off with an elbow to his solar plexus, Stephanie turned around.
“Listen. I appreciate the assist, but if you’re expecting me to introduce you to-”
Oh.
“Damian,” Steph said, not really giving a crap about preserving his alternate identity. He didn’t have an alternate identity, as far as she was concerned. He’d lost that the second that he killed someone. He wasn’t Robin, he wasn’t Batman. He was Damian Wayne: spoiled rich boy, that’d killed to make a name for himself.
Surprise turned to anger and then to distance. Stephanie shook her head, and pulled out her jump line. She didn’t want to hang around for any conversations. Whatever he had to say, she didn’t want to hear it.
“You shouldn’t have come back.”

He unwrapped the scarf from his face, letting it fall to his shoulders. He certainly didn't look repentant, and he wasn't, but he didn't have the arrogance in his eyes that he'd once had. Damian had spent his time away doing a lot of thinking. "Kate told me she'd given the cowl to you."
That was it. No snide remark, but no congratulations either. Stephanie and proven herself well enough to Kate, and well enough to the other members of the Bat-family. He could question privately, but he wouldn't publicly. At the moment.

“Yeah,” Steph said, ready to be defensive if she needed. Everyone in Gotham had accepted the transition. But there was still that part of her that was always gearing for someone to try and take it away. That knew things like this could just be someone else’s whim, if you didn’t defend them.
But Damian didn’t say anything else. That was maybe the only sensible thing she’d ever seen him do.
He looked different. Older. Still a kid, compared to her. But now he actually had some height on him.
“So, what? You’re back? That Robin costume won’t fit you anymore.”
For a whole lot of reasons.
