Once more into the vortex

The Doctor, despite having run into Martha and having given her several pieces of his mind, was still ridiculously angry. Furious. But with Martha, he'd played it far more nicely than he needed to with the real culprit. They had too much history for niceties ( Read more... )

The Master had been expecting the Doctor to be furious - that had been, while not the whole point, definitely a major motivation - but the sight of it was the best thing he'd seen in far too long.. He'd destroyed whole countries in an attempt to put that look on the Doctor's face, and there it was. Perfect.

He'd been rather looking forward to running into the Doctor - had, to be honest, deliberately placed himself where the Doctor shouldn't have too much trouble finding him - because, really, there were few pleasures in life as satisfying as managing to make the Doctor angry.

The Master switched the iPod which he'd been listening to off and tucking it safely away, then stood up and faced the Doctor, grinning.

The Doctor, without further ado, walked up to him, hauled off and punched him in the face.

It was quite a good punch, to be honest. A decent uppercut (he might have spent some time in Philadelphia a while back) and he didn't care what he hit as long as he got good followthrough.

"You fuck," he said, and did it again.

Now that, the Master thought - feeling quite deliciously satisfied, despite the fact that it bloody hurt - was a pissed off Doctor.

He punched back, of course, hardly being the sort to pass up a perfect excuse for violence when it was offered to him, hitting him once in the stomach then shoving him to the ground, although really he could have gone on all day.

'Yes, I did,' he said brightly, wiping a trickle of blood away from his nose. 'Really, Doctor, you should have had her while she was following you around like a wounded puppy. Very fun. Nine out of ten. Well, eight point five, she was a little too... feisty. Can soon sort that out, though.'

The solar plexus, the Doctor thought, just as the punch hit and he hit the ground harder than he'd meant to, not quite knocking the wind from his lungs. "You'd best not," he said, and spat hard on the ground as he got up. "Is this what you are now, what you resort to? Sex and a moment or two of humiliation? Got your own Patty Hearst, too bad there's not any banks to knock up."

His eyes narrowed even further, and he couldn't help but admire the red streak of blood left on the Master's face. "That's the difference between you and me, all you do is take."
