An Introduction:

Oct 14, 2011 22:27

Before we begin anything, there are a number of introductions that have to be made.
First of all, all the content posted on this livejournal is a collaborative effort, as was stated in my profile. My two real life friends put as much effort into taking down these abomination of fics as I do and I am eternally grateful for their help.

Now, to get started:
The concept of 'Sporking' is by no means original. It has been around for almost as long as bad fanfiction. It is when you see a fanfic that is so bad that you simply cannot stop yourself from ranting and raving at it. It is the systematic mocking of bad writing for entertainment purposes. I have been interested in this idea for a long time, however, it was das_mervin who inspired me to finally make a concrete effort into taking down the various bad fanfics I have read over the years. I spent the last few months of my life hungrily reading up on all sporks I can find on Livejournal, and eventually decided that guardians_song's methods of Sporking suited me the best and provided the most laughs. No malice is intended towards either of these two wonderful people. I simply wish to make tribute to their awesomeness. If you like the Sporks you read here, then I encourage you to check out their works. You will not be disappointed.
I explained this inspiration to my lovely friends, and they agreed to make this a group effort. And thus began the Society of Sporkers.

Fanfiction from a variety of fandoms will be here, and we will shy away from no topics. As long as it's bad, we will be most happy to mock it to hell. Therefore, if you should come upon hilariously bad, painfully bad, or even just plain weird fanfiction, we would appreciate it if you informed us.

My friends and I are also planning out and writing Original Fiction at the moment as well as role-playing. Most of our sporkers come from these places. They will be introduced in the Spork they appear in.
We also work hard to give the Sporks a meta-plot, so that the Sporks are connected by over-arching conflicts and character development, which will hopefully make them more fun to read.
Constructive Criticism is always welcome in this area, please do not hesitate to point out any errors.

I thought that I will give a more detailed introduction of the members of SOS here.
I am the representation of Order in our little group. I delight in picking out the logic fail, grammar problems and inconsistent characterisation from bad fics. I have no qualifications and, in fact, still have not graduated from high school. However, I do pride myself upon my common sense, a vital quality of Sporkers, from what I have heard. I mainly work in Anime fandoms and a few book fandoms. However, due to a case of chronic forgetfulness, I'm not so good at pointing out continuity errors. And, as hypocritical as this sounds, I have a fatal tendency to warp characterization when doing Sporks simply because I rage all too easily over minor problems.

My best friend is very much symbolic of Chaos in our group. She has all sorts of strange theories about every show she watches, and is an unrepentant Cloudcuckoolander. She is singularly spectacular at creating likeable, snarky characters and writing actually healthy relationships, despite never having been in one herself. I am a rabid shipper of almost all her couples. She has a lovely sense of humour and is very good at spotting accidental innuendos. She also nitpicks quite a lot and has a far firmer grasp of canon than I do. She's knowledgeable about a number of comics, games and Anime as well as a number of book series.

My other best friend is the Voice of Reason. I've always joked that she's the Anthropomorphic Personification of Decency and Wholesomeness. God knows how we came to associate with each other. She can be somewhat lenient on bad fics as she has a tendency to interpret things in the best way possible and remains forever optimistic. She's also the oldest of us and is about to graduate from high school, so she has the least amount of time to waste Sporking (read: she actually has a life). However, she reads over our Sporkings and points out any of our mistakes (though always very gently), and keeps us in control whenever we go too far in eviscerating Suethors.

I think that's all for now.
I hope you enjoy our efforts.
Again, keep the constructive criticism coming.
Thank you.
