I'm sure that's totally normal

I've just been ridiculed by a fairly erudite friend for writing "id est" instead of "i.e."

Writing it out isn't weird, is it?

Oh, my, has it really been 3 years since you've posted here? maroonmd doesn't post here much anymore either. It was nice talking to you at Sat.'s party, though.

BTW, if everyone did everything the same, life would be boring, though communication is easier if it's more or less standard. :)

I have posted since then. It's just that shortly thereafter, the default visibility setting changed to friends only, and since I'm rather private, I left it that way.

As for communications: I think standard communication is helpful and I respect it on that basis, but people often forget that communication is NOT standard, and even more, that a lot of what we try to communicate does not HAVE a standard. But people tend to assume it exists and that they know it. Respect that fact, and then there's some progress to be made. Don't respect it, and progress can be made, but much more slowly and with much more acrimony.

It was nice to chat with you, and I think we're likely to do so again sometime. :)
