Thank you for my lovely birthday pictures and videos! And to others on other media who… etc..
So, birthday. I had an opera birthday, yes I did! I went to English Touring Opera, twice! They were in Buxton for the 20th and 21st.

I'm not familiar with either opera but I can imagine that the addition of a Cirque de Soliel vibe would certain jazz things up. Not to mention airplanes. Holy moly.

I didn't actually think of Cirque de Soliei but I suppose you could be right- I don't know if I've seen enough to judge that. It did have the sort of chaotic aspect, with the singers taking the place of the clowns. I did sit through the opening act with my hands clenched like a kid at the circus, come to think of it!
Sadly it wasn't a whole plane- the bit you see is all that appeared onstage- still less an animatronic one (that would have been fun!) but it was probably still livelier than sticking rigidly to the book, I expect. Anyway, the directing of the actors (if it was all the director's work and with opera I suppose you can usually assume it is) was very fun.
