There was virtually no light in the room. Nothing for Souji to really mentally grasp onto to pull himself out.
He shifted and pushed himself up. He... he had to get up. Something. Anything. Were those his hands shaking? It was difficult to tell, past the blur that was his vision.

The dream wasn't quite as vividly present as before, but it still flickered and played. Clung tightly on.
Even then, this wasn't the first time Souji had this dream. At least his third - or was it fifth - time. It had cropped up in the past month, but it was disturbing now as it had been the first time.
But there was Aidan holding him close. That soothing, distracting stroke over his chest again and again. That voice in his ear, even though he couldn't register the words. Something to cling onto and free himself, and he held on gratefully, if silently. Slowly, ever so slowly, the beating of his heart eased as did his breathing, the image of the horrendous scene fading away. Coherency and awareness returned with every passing moment.
