Nightmares

Another nightmare. The third increasingly bad one this past week. Soujirou was used to having them once every few weeks, but the past two months or so, he'd been riddled with them. Not only were they increasing in occurrences, but they had been getting worse in nature ( Read more... )

Aidan's sleep hours had been ruined by Soujirou, in his opinion, thanks to the other requiring more than just the usual two hours Aidan had long sense been able to wean himself on. He didn't complain seriously though, when using the Nishimoto as his personal heater, the two usually found side by side. It'd become almost routine for him to get up in the early AMs, sneak in an hour or two of work before crawling back into bed at Souji's dry comment or just the allure of a warm bed in the cooler autumn days. Soujirou would usually stir awake when he got up or returned to bed, but quickly go back to sleep ( ... )

Souji could sense the movement behind him, even if he couldn't see it. Remembering where he was and who was there with him brought more reality to him. Made him more aware of his surroundings.

But still, the image of that knife, dripping with blood...

There was virtually no light in the room. Nothing for Souji to really mentally grasp onto to pull himself out.

He shifted and pushed himself up. He... he had to get up. Something. Anything. Were those his hands shaking? It was difficult to tell, past the blur that was his vision.

Something was wrong. Aidan was used to Soujirou calming himself down, sometimes leaving to give himself some space in the bathroom, sometimes allowing Aidan to distract him with a kiss, touches, more- exhaustion made a good preventative for nightmares, Aidan found and he was not above using that knowledge. But Soujirou was still distraught even after a few long seconds had passed. Aidan shifted himself closer, pressing into Soujirou's side- and paused for a split second himself. He was shivering, skin cold and almost clammy to the touch. And he still hadn't managed to calm his heart rate down yet, Aidan felt as he reached out mentally even as he made the decision to wrap his arm more tightly around Soujirou's pulling him in closer. His other hand found Soujirou's as well and pressed the shaky hand down onto his chest, fingers spread eagle as he began to almost rub Soujirou's bare chest lightly ( ... )

The arm around him tightened and pulled him back, startling Soujirou as he stiffened up. He had forgotten Aidan was there next to him in that moment just now. Had he- no, he had to have been there the entire time.

The dream wasn't quite as vividly present as before, but it still flickered and played. Clung tightly on.

Even then, this wasn't the first time Souji had this dream. At least his third - or was it fifth - time. It had cropped up in the past month, but it was disturbing now as it had been the first time.

But there was Aidan holding him close. That soothing, distracting stroke over his chest again and again. That voice in his ear, even though he couldn't register the words. Something to cling onto and free himself, and he held on gratefully, if silently. Slowly, ever so slowly, the beating of his heart eased as did his breathing, the image of the horrendous scene fading away. Coherency and awareness returned with every passing moment.
