Banter for the ones in the club!

Okay guys… can we do a little chit chat? Seeing as you all are oh so bent on participating.

KENSHIN BANTER!

Here you discuss random stuff, whatever you want to talk about, as long as it’s Kenshin. I’d like to start with the topic of Aoshi…

Now don’t be shy…. Who hates Aoshi?

I don’t… Not at all, really, I don’t. But Aoshi’s ATTITUDE?

The main reason Sou/mi exist is because the canon just doesn’t cut it for us. Let’s forget the age difference (Kenshin/Kaoru being the best example of this), let’s forget we never even once saw him having any sort of even faintest hint of any sexual inclination towards anything (except perhaps tea).

Just try and Picture Misao, married to Aoshi, seeing her husband stare blankly ahead for some good 40 years. Dear God Misao, you didn’t see that coming? Meditating is his hobby!

Let’s see why *I* dislike Aoshi.

We never see him doing anything truly relevant. All he does is wangst over how his friends risked their lives to save him and subsequently died, stare straight ahead of him for countless hours in what its supposed to be deep concentration (and what Ani and I suspect it’s actually him trying to keep himself from molesting the walls of the temple… Oh, their forbidden love… If Only he had Prozac to help him with the voices!) and stay still while the wind blows his hair.

Suuure, he’s eye candy, I’m not gonna deny it. Put it in a Kiss stall and you can easily go to the Caiman Island. Put him to work as a Gigolo and in a week his pimp will be able to buy a small country. But he’s the DULLEST eye candy I’ve ever seen. For fruit’s sake, Jiya is a billion times livelier than he is! Does anyone know how he got his new technique with the Kodachis? Do you ever see him training at all?

EVER?

Oh, he was hot AND cool when he was a teenager and Misao was a little girl. Why did he change?? When did he exactly decide being an ice statue was cool? Look at Kenshin’s master! He is quiet, cool and actually has a PERSONALITY. Was it the rebellious teenager stage? That was what gave him charisma? Wild teenager hormones, come back! We forgive you!

I mean… just… He’s like not even passed within five feet of the uncle's wife's cousin of personality…. My refrigerator has more of a personality than he does! At least it growls when we make it work too much!

Have you ever seen him blush? Ever? At all? Once? Or any other facial expression other than:

Aoshi 1 : *default face of nothingness*
Aoshi 2: *face of WANGST* (insert expression 1 + slightly shrunken pupils)
Aoshi 3: *concentrated Aoshi about to kick yo ass* (insert expression 2 + take off light of eyes, making them dull)

Ohhhh I get it now… He’s the Clint Eastwood of the Meiji era!

Please don’t take this as bashing, because it really isn’t. It’s just my thoughts on him. I don’t dislike Aoshi, he just…bores me. To tears.

++++++++

Secondly… let’s go on why Misao and Aoshi wouldn’t work.

For one thing: BORING. Misao has what can be considered ADD and liquid sugar running through her veins. This is exaggerating, I know… but compare it to Aoshi, and you’ll see my point.

Misao is a lively young woman. She is mature in her own way (we can see that very well on the Shishio arch) but she’s also bursting with energy. I just can’t see her sitting for days watching the sun set and rise.

Of course Misao’s gonna look childish to a guy that’s at least 13 years her senior, practically raised her and who’s hobby is meditate… he’s never going to be able to see Misao as anything but a little girl because he met her as one, and due Misao’s quick temper she might look like one to him. I’m sure Aoshi think anyone but himself and maybe Saitou is childish… and that’s only because we never see Saitou have an outburst.

I just think Misao needs time to realize by herself it wouldn’t work. I’m not going to tell you he doesn’t care about her (because that’s not true, we can very clearly see he loves Misao very much…. But not romantically)

About the chapter where Kenshin KEEPS trying to get Aoshi to see Misao as a woman and possible love interest… I find it oh so disturbing. My thoughts on it is that by now Kenshin has realized that Kaoru was the best thing to happen to him in his life (save of Tomoe) and wants to see Misao as some sort of pseudo-Kaoru to Aoshi’s pseudo-Kenshin…

Aoshi is NOT Kenshin. It took a long while for Kenshin to accept he felt something for Kaoru and even more to be willing to fight for it, but we can see from the beginning that there is a will on the redhead’s part to change. We know he dislikes what he’s turned into and how lonely he felt for the last ten years and that’s why he was so attracted to the idea of being Karou’s family and all… And Aoshi seems so… oh, well, comfortable on his paper of willingly throwing his life to be perpetually praying for forgiveness and the souls of his fallen comrades and past sins and all…

Misao and Aoshi wouldn’t work simply because their personalities are too radically different in all the possibly wrong ways. I’m not saying opposites don’t attract, because they do… but there’s have to be something in common. I just think that with time Misao would get terribly frustrated at her attempts of making her husband/lover/couple/whatever get his life back, to move on and LIVE, and see how she gives, gives, gives, and All Aoshi does is stay there, take it and make not a try at changing.

And I’m not saying that he wouldn’t try to. I just think he wouldn’t be able to take it. He’d be annoyed at her for simply being there for him, just out of guilt for not being able to return her feelings.

I guess the worst that a woman can do is love too much a man that doesn’t wan to be loved, or thinks that he doesn’t deserve it.

+++++++++++++

As a side comment, I don’t really think Misao to be all that immature… Sure, she’s loud and brash, but I truly think she does it because people always patronize her and treat her like a little girl. If people actually treated her more like an adult, and respected her opinions just a little bit more, I do think she’d be more clamed down. (That being a mayor point why I think Misao and Sou would work… Sou would listen to her -maybe then point out why her plan wouldn’t work or why what she said isn’t that a good idea-, but still at least he’d be considerate enough to listen to her.)

Misao and Sou would equilibrate each other perfectly. Soujiro desperately needs someone that he can trust in, someone that will be for him no matter what happens, and we know very well Misao fills that part perfectly well. Misao needs someone who would unconditionally support her decisions and respect her, and someone that thinks of her as something more important than the little sister/grandchild/friend. I always thought that if Soujiro ever fell for her he’d be very needy, affectively (not gonna tell you he’d be clingy and paranoid or anything like that, just that he’d want to be with her and protect her and all the jazz because Misao loves him for who he is)… and I think that Misao needs to feel important, needed.

Ah, well, I think my rant has gone too far. I’d love people to answer me with their thoughts! Comments would make me very happy, make me work harder on the dou and cheer up our Brave Leader!
