Weapon skills and Meister skills are not the same as superskills, and take much less resonation and power.

Both skill types are wrapped within the soul of either the Weapon or Meister, and can be called "soul skills". These can be activated either at will or during a certain type of circumstances, such as healing, creating barriers, that sort of thing. Abilities can also be passive, like Soul Perception.

Some Weapons are healers, or can shift forms depending on their circumstances. Some Meisters can transport their partner to them from around the world.

Abilities can't be seen or heard within someone's wavelength, but there are such things as "healing wavelengths" that calm the Madness or ill within someone's soul. This is usually different from a Soul Ability. By resonating, a person with an Anti-Madness, Anti-Magic, Healing or Soothing wavelength can calm whatever evils or madnesses lie in their partner's soul.

{She raises her hand, tapping her pen lightly against her notebook. Sad as it was to say, he's...actually less intimidating than some of her old teachers.}

Sensei? Is there a way to determine what kind of wave-length you have?

What kind? Usually, but a soul may have to grow and mature before it becomes obvious. The older and stronger you get, the easier it is to tell.

Reborn raises his hand, but it might be just the least bit hard to see. "Weapons can shift forms? How is that determined?"

Resonating with one's own soul is also possible, and can usually manifest as what's called the Soul Menace ability in someone's soul. Someone with a very powerful wavelength or particularly malleable soul might also be able to do this, outside of their Soul Ability.

For example. My Ability is Soul Perception, but I've also created an attack known as Soul Force, in which I resonate with my own soul and then force my wavelength into my opponent. This can cause a serious amount of damage, both physically and within the soul; disrupting someone's wavelength, especially if theirs is weaker, can do as much as disorienting them, creating migraines, disrupting their abilities and even causing loss of consciousness.

A strong enough Force can puncture organs, as well.

In order to do something like that, one must be very aware of themselves and their soul, they must be able to find their soul wavelength without aide of a weapon, and they must be able to accept that there are things within their soul that aren't positive.

[a pause.]No, I ( ... )

[holy shit, ruptured organs? just from unusually strong focus on the soul and the self? suddenly Karkat thinks it might be in his best interest to do all that meditating crap Selendis is always pestering him about.]

Can Weapons resonate with their own souls too, or is this just a Meister trait?

Weapons can. That's how they are able to partially transform. It's usually much easier for Weapons.

[taking all these notes.]

Whoa, shit, I didn't know that stuff was all related. So what's with the eighty souls, like is that some arbitrary number we need to hit to prove we can handle ourselves, or does something happen then?

If resonation starts to fall apart and both parties have compatible wavelengths, the trouble could be in changes within their soul. Mistrust and pain is the fastest way to misalign wavelengths and cause strife. These are usually personal, emotional changes that one or both partners need to overcome in order to save the partnership.

Emotional and personal problems that cause strife within a soul can break a partnership, and even go as far as to change the shape and sound of your soul. Make sure that you keep an at least healthy relationship with your partner, especially if you happen to be close personally.

Many relationships can end up being very close, and even romantic. Knowing the shape and sound of someone's soul personally can be a very personal experience, but it can also lead to jealousy and bitterness if something changes due to someone else. This is why dual partnerships are very difficult.

[Romantic? Oh... that... well, she's not sure about this arrangement when you put it that way, Stein. We'll keep the sibling facade up, thanks.]

[HAND RAISE.]

You say "even" romantic. It doesn't have to be, though, right?

screw_disorder December 1 2011, 01:31:56 UTC
No, it doesn't. Many partnerships are platonic and just as strong as romantic partnerships.

I'll cover more involved resonation techniques, like Dual Wielding, Dual Partnership and Resonation Link in other classes. For now, feel free to ask questions on anything regarding souls and resonation ( ... )

[Hey it's that white eyed kid again. Sorry Stein, but he has a good number of questions that weren't totally on topic. He spends a few moments marking down the professor's 'homework' assignments. Even if he probably won't do the essay because he has a partner to practice with, he'll make an effort to research the topics Stein mentioned out of an insatiable curiosity for all things soul-related. Neji folds up his notes and eventually wanders up to the front of the classroom]

You have Soul Perception- the ability used to identify Meisters and Weapons. Does it allow you to monitor soul wavelengths as well?

screw_disorder December 1 2011, 08:05:47 UTC
Yes, it does. I can tell your wavelength, strength and personality.

[Personality? Really? Curious headtilt, peering rather intently at Stein's eyes behind the glare of his glasses]

I've heard resonance is based on the nature of an individual's wavelength before, but I can't imagine how you're able to visually determine specific personalities from them.

[Karkat attended, sat somewhere in the middle, and took notes in a language only trolls can read. he already knew a lot of today's lesson, but it's still good to get official Shibusen word on some things. especially when he's taken it upon himself to educate the rest of his team and also pretty much anyone else with questions.

bother him Y/N?]

[He's really not up to pestering much, but Karkat's another weapon and so comparing notes might be helpful. Gai pushes his notebook toward Karkat's and leans in, only to find that he has no idea what any of Karkat's writing says. When Gai speaks his voice is a lot less emotional than normal.]

That is Troll?

There is nothing wrong with the classes. ...Lee left this morning. And your language looks very interesting.
