[The video is focused on two packs of very similar cigarettes. One reads "Black Stone" with "cherry" written in red script at an angle. The other says "Black Death" and has "cherry" written in a very similar font, except it looks a bit like dripping blood.]They look the same. They smell the same, but what are the chances that I'm going to get the ( Read more... )

[Tommy frowns ever so slighty.]

Or you know, you could quit smoking all together.

[Have a brilliant smile.] I could, but I'd rather not.

[Smiles back, wryly.]

I suppose it's your own choice... for what it's worth, I doubt they'd sell something to cause the plague here.

That's true. It would not help their war.

...that too.

[That's way too cynical for him.]

You think that telling someone they should quit would ever actually work?

Maybe, maybe not. It's a personal decision. But if you see someone hurting themselves...

Would you tell someone with a beer they ought to stop drinking too? Or someone eating fried food that they shouldn't eat that?

But thank you for at least not pushing it. I promise you though, that smokers know how bad what they're doing is. Telling them they ought to stop is more rude than helpful.

IRONY: Mun happens to be a legit chain-smoker. rangerforlife August 24 2011, 01:13:17 UTC
Mmm, perhaps. I think the difference is that alcohol is harmful when it's being abused, so if someone did abuse it, I would find myself at fault for not at least pointing it out. Pretty much the same with fried food. The issue with smoking is that no matter what little you do, it's still harmful.

And I understand, which is why I don't push. But I can't in good conscience not mention it. I'm sorry.

*bro-fists* But I told myself, this bag of tobacco, then I get myself a box of Blacks at school and bass_instincts August 24 2011, 01:21:31 UTC

It's all right. I've only heard it a hundred times.

/been smoking for a decade. The closest thing to quitting I've ever been has been this semester rangerforlife August 24 2011, 01:24:33 UTC
[ooc: when my Wednesday classes were scheduled on a seventh floor, with spiral staircases of doom, and no elevators. Hot damn, did that put things into perspective...]

Fair enough.

[A bit of a sheepish laugh.]

[...you didn't see that happen...]

I could never do stairs even when I was in shape. bass_instincts August 24 2011, 02:58:06 UTC
You just might want to be careful, it can be a touchy subject for some people.

Me neither, really. rangerforlife August 24 2011, 03:20:53 UTC
I'll keep it in mind, then.

[He chuckles.]

But you know, as a teacher, it's a habit hard to break.

I could bench press my own weight, but couldn't do stairs. I can't do either now... bass_instincts August 24 2011, 18:25:56 UTC
What do you teach then?

Oh wow, impressive! The good news I guess is that the stairs didn't kill me today! rangerforlife August 24 2011, 20:47:26 UTC
Science.

[There's definite warmth in there, and pride.]

To kids who aren't really kids anymore, really. Just the age they're picking up certain things we have to actively try and discourage them from.

Ah, that age. [The age he's in right now. Totally familiar with that age.]
