Yuffie sat quietly (for once!) outside her room, staring at the other side of the hall and just... sitting. Her hands held her head for a moment and she frowned to herself. She didn't understand, but this was awful. Whatever the feeling was, it made her sick to her stomach, as if she were riding a neverending flight through a dark sky and--"urp!" She really needed to stop thinking about it.

Groaning to herself, Yuffie shifted and pulled her knees up to her chest, arms wrapping around her legs as she rest her forehead on top of them. She might have thought to just go to bed and relax, but there was no way she was going to be able to rest in a room where the television only gave off static and everything looked like it was moving. So there was her decision maker, and the second floor hall was now claimed as her temporary home until further notice.

Or, until this crazy nightmare stopped and she could wake up from it.

It took her a lingering moment to finally turn toward him, lips pursed in a near-pout. She often forgot that the man could quite possibly live for an eternity, but she'd decided that he wasn't immortal -- just really far behind. All it took was a good kick in the rear to get him going again... right?

"Then I'm holding you to that," she finally started. "But if you die, I'm bringing you right back to beat you into oblivion for lying." The sad part was that she wasn't joking, it was just a matter of how to bring the dead back to life and it's not like they hadn't woken him up from a coffin before. She could do it again!

Her smile returned to brighten her expression in an instant and Yuffie took a step away, allowing him his personal bubble (for the moment) back. "Aw, come on. You say that like you don't like having me around. You know, if I went missing and didn't call or write or something you guys would be miserable! Admit it!"

( OOC But the stubborn ones are fun to break. >3 )

She only looked...half-upset? She wasn't an easy person to read, he had to admit. Strange how it worked...

He only nodded to that. "...I doubt you would that," Her? Bringing him back to beat him into oblivion? Right. He should probably tell her resurrection was a painful process.

Vincent sat down on the ground once she stepped away, slumping for a moment. "Worried. Not miserable." Liar. Oh well; did she have to know that? He supposed it was the same for everyone. Aerith dead and look what happened to them. Cloud disappeared and everyone was frantic. "You're part of AVALANCHE. Having you around is a necessity."

Those words sounded empty even to him.

[ ooc: Sadly yes. And very, very fun to torture >D ]

Yuffie rolled her eyes (she seemed to do that a lot recently) and shook her head. "Doubt is unhealthy for you!" That didn't even make sense, and she knew it, but it sounded good in her head and so it had to work.

She watched him sit and her head tilted to the side for a second. She hadn't seen him look so worn before, and it honestly worried her. "Uh... Hey, Vincent, I was kidding. I wouldn't go anywhere if I could help it," she said with a light laugh, a hand reaching out to lightly pat his shoulder before she sat down beside him.

Back to camping out in the hall it seemed.

"Even though you're really bad at saying things," she slid him a look, then grinned. "I get what you mean." She leaned her head back against the wall, closing her eyes to push back the faint throbbing of a headache. Staying distracted helped. "You know, this is the part where you confess your everlasting love for me and how you'll serve me everyday and worship the ground I walk on." Said so matter of factly, but she was always joking.

"Doubt is an old friend to me. I feel reluctant to abandon it." Yeah, he wasn't making much sense, either.

The day was catching up to him, and that fact was manifesting itself in his actions. "Less trouble for us," was all he said, not moving when she patted his shoulder.

Nice that she wasn't asking a million questions. Camping in the hall sounded like a good idea; he was afraid he might end up punching the TV or something ridiculous like that.

"Did you expect someone sleeping in a coffin to be good at communication?" He brought one knee up and rested his arm on it. "Hn."

And then her next words had him blinking.

...what? He glanced perplexedly at her.

Chaos snickered. Vincent told him--politely--to go away.

"...I don't know what you mean by that," he finally said.

Yuffie blink at him then snickered. "I thought I was more trouble to you by hanging around." Sometimes she thought she should have given him a break, but these were those moments that she just couldn't pass up. It was far too entertaining for her to pick at him, but on the other hand it was just her way of showing that she cared.

At the question Yuffie nodded immediately. "Of course! After centuries," she might have been exaggerating, "of not talking to anybody, you'd think a guy like you would have a ton to say."

With eyes closed she didn't even notice his glance nor the awkward silence until he spoke up again. Opening one eye first then the other, she fidgeted a little and looked away with a small laugh. "You take me way too seriously." He was probably the only one that did at times, and she knew she shouldn't have been sabotaging that. "It's a joke, relax! Loosen up, think silly things, make up a lie or two, trust me it can be fun."

"I've gotten used to it." For the most part. He could very easily tune her out when he wanted, but not to the point that he wouldn't notice if she tried to poke him in an attempt to "wake him up."

"After centuries," he said dryly. "Especially after centuries of arguing with your mind and usually losing the argument, you tend to lose the urge to speak much." Talking with his demons always left him disagreeable and tired, but he never let it show. Most people attested his laconic nature as a preference, but it wasn't.

He shrugged one shoulder. "Sorry?" He couldn't tell a flirt from a joke, sadly. "Oh. But..." he fell a little silent. He didn't think love was something he could easily joke about. Not anymore. When he had been a Turk, it was fine because when you were drunk you said stupid things. After he was marked dead and gone...the mere thoughts of love left a bitter taste in his mouth.

After a dramatic sigh, Yuffie just shrugged. If he was just 'used to' her, it was a step up from being annoyed by her. She had to find the silver lining, and it wasn't like she couldn't work on that. Maybe she could bump up from tolerance to actual like! Now that would be an achievement to put in the history books.

"That's why you try new conversations with somebody that isn't in your head." She brightened cheerfully and pointed a finger at herself. "Somebody like me! I can hold great conversations, and maybe sometimes I'll even let you win an argument or two just to boost your self-esteem."

There was a drawn out pause as Yuffie waited for something to follow the 'but...' When it looked like he was honestly stopped there, she nudged him with an elbow. "But what? It's good for you to crack a smile or two. Eventually you might even laugh!" And she would be there with a video recorder for that special day.

"What?" He raised his eyebrow at that sigh. "That is not good enough for you?"

"I don't know about that." You? Vincent almost snorted, but he didn't. "Our conversations are usually...you talking most of the time. And just how many times have you actually won an argument with me? You hardly win against Cloud or the others."

A blink at the nudge, but he didn't move beyond that. "It depends on the joke." It seemed people were determined to making him smile. Aerith. Yuffie. Zatanna. He still had yet to do that. He could smirk, but a smirk was different from a smile. Mentally, he pictured a smile, but he didn't think the muscles in his mouth would obey.

"Being used to me is like taking a Heal materia when you really want a Restore!" She sighed again and just shook her head. "It's not a compliment at all!"

Yuffie stretched her legs out in front of herself. "I win lots of arguments, they just don't tell you about those ones." She picked at a loose thread on her shorts, gaze focused even as she continued talking. "But the only reason I'm talking most of the time is because you don't talk back. It's okay to say what's on your mind every once in a while. Adding what you think just makes the conversation last longer!"

Then again, it never occurred to her that he might not want to have long conversations with her.

"Jeez, you're hard to please, do you know that? Your face will be stuck in a permanent frown, then you'll really scare people away." As if the whole dark glares and red cape weren't doing it already.

"..." He appeared a little baffled at this comparison. "...oh."

Fingers rested on the ground as he braced himself to also stretch his legs out. "I am sure of that," he remarked dryly. "What if I did not want the conversation to last longer?"

He is not a mind reader. But he is very good at intuition--sometimes.

"I am?" Him, hard-to-be? He didn't ask for a lot, though. "I hardly think I scare people away, though."

"Oh," she echoed, glancing up toward him. Of course he didn't apologize or anything, no no that would be too much and -- who was she kidding, it's not like it really bothered her. Not a lot did, for that matter, and everybody knew she could bounce back from it just as quickly if it had ( ... )

"Maybe I simply cannot make up my mind." He shrugged and shifted his position against the wall. Fingers reached up to tug at the buckles of his cape. "I was never good at making decisions, anyway."

Vincent snorted a little at this. "Hn, scary? I scare myself, sometimes." Her next question made him shrug a little. "I wouldn't call them 'friends' as of yet. More of acquaintances and perhaps fellow fighters." He had talked to a lot of people, to find things out. They were--well, everyone brought into this world--they made up a very eclectic group. He still listened in on conversations--not the private ones, though--and by means of that he could learn a lot of the going-abouts.

"Maybe I am, maybe I'm not," he answered her, a little absently. "My shell is comfortable. I don't feel like leaving it."

...he really had hit his head on something if he was spouting this nonsense.

"Ah, torn between want and... er... unwant!" Yuffie nodded to herself, as if it made sense. "I guess that's a tough decision there, I know how hard it is to walk away from someone like me anyway," she laughed and shook her head. It wasn't that she couldn't be serious, she just had more fun joking (at his expense most of the time ( ... )

"Something like that," he admitted. "...is that supposed to be a joke?" Good grief, he even had to ask something like that...rather pathetic, but trying to tell a joke from a serious statement was...often difficult.

"I'm what?" Crimson eyes blinked. "...Yuffie?" A tilt of his head. "You called me depressing when we met. Am I still depressing?" He waved his head. "...never mind that. What are we then if we are not friends?" Vincent was still reluctant sometimes to use the word friends, but there were exceptions. AVALANCHE--certainly, yes, he could consider them friends. His mind told him that while he was with the Turks, he hadn't experience that sort of closeness beyond two or three people.

...Curious. An organization, or a motley group? Clearly, the motley group. "I don't make a good friend under any circumstances," he softly mused out loud.

He started when she yanked on his cape, tugging him forward. Twitching a little, Vincent looked down at her, bemused. ""

Yuffie stared at him for a moment, but gave up on the incredulous look and just shrugged. She really couldn't expect anything more from him, could she? "Yes, Vincent. It was a joke, until you asked. Then it stopped being funny. We're really going to have to work on your sense of humor if we're going to be hanging out." She had future plans of it, it seemed.

She could think of a million ways to answer him, each falling under serious or not, but her mouth simply hung open for a few seconds before she looked away again. "Vincent..." You're you. That was something Tifa or Aerith was supposed to say. "We're friends, so don't worry about it. I mean, if you don't want to be I could just demote you to my number one fan." And she jumped right back into teasing ( ... )
