Description: Italy has a flying kishin problem. Selendis and Karkat go to take care of it.

The city had been busy and full of BREW’s latest victims when they had left through the mirror for their mission. She’d spend some time glossing over the network, in case anyone that was familiar showed up, until it had been time for them to leave. She’d continue monitoring it when they returned, but for now she focused on the task at hand. Italy, Selendis decided, had a much nicer climate than Death City, Nevada. The temperature was pleasantly moderate and the wind didn’t bring sand everywhere. The ground was still damp from a morning rainstorm, whose gray clouds still hung over the countryside.

Selendis wasn’t looking up at the moment, but what was left of some hapless human strewn across the ground. The locals would be by in the morning to identify and clean up the mess, but right now the victim was serving as evidence. The gore was nothing new to her, nor did it move her, but it helped piece together what they were up against out here. Like the previous reports, every part and organ was accounted for, just cut to ribbons and discarded like trash. The kishin wanted the soul, and nothing else.

She glanced down at Karkat for a moment, double checking that he was staying close. The last thing she wanted was for him to get carried off, after all. If the kishin came from above, which was what they expected, she was the larger target. There wasn’t much out where they were standing aside from rolling hills, and the nearest town was barely visible. Plenty of open space, which was the best way for them to find their prey. Thus far it had chosen its next target in the same area as the last victim, which it then carried off to a new location to start the process all over again. It also struck near nightfall, which was a problem for humans and their poor eyesight. Selendis and Karkat would see it coming, so long as they were looking in the right direction.

“If the humans have done as they were told, we should be the only ones visible,” she said, stepping around the putrid mess of human entrails and finally looking skyward. It was probably still too early, but with the cloud cover, it would get dark fast.
