[Selendis has been making her rounds through Death City, ultimately heading for the Casualty Communal. She's on the street for once, offering help where places still need cleaning up. There's not much she can do at the clinic, so she's about to pass it by when she spots someone... climbing out the window?

She steps over the bushes to get a better look, recognizing Nataku and seeing his bandages. Crawling through the window probably isn't the best way to heal.]

Nataku. What are you doing? [Her tone is only slightly accusing.]

[The clinic is only one floor, but he doesn't feel that he should take too many chances. Besides, he could use the rope made to climb up on rooftops. When he hears the voice, he turns to look over his shoulder -- unhurried and calm -- he did not see any reason to be anything, but after all.]

I am escaping from the clinic. How are you, Selendis? You were unharmed in the attack?

I am well enough, Nataku, but I can see that you are not. Why do you feel compelled to escape? Is something wrong inside the clinic?

[She couldn't hear any trouble, and she doubted Watson would be barricading people inside. If Nataku's answer isn't to her liking, she's just going to push him back inside.]

No, nothing is wrong inside the clinic. It is healing me well. [Small hop to slide down a little on the rope, and setting his feet down on the outside.] However, I do not have any happy memories of being in such a setting. Furthermore, I sadden Tassadar in being here. I would rather not upset my Meister.

Tassadar will be more upset to learn that you have left the clinic and deceived John Watson to do so. He is sad that you must be here because you are injured, not because it is where you are. Once you have healed, you may return to him.

[And he stands outside of the window, holding onto the rope. Nataku slowly processes what it is that Selendis is saying.] You know him very well. I would like to return to everyone sooner, but I believe that you are right that I cannot return now.

[Crawling back through the window, but is halted as -- ow, arm.] Assistance is required.

[She's relieved he agrees with her, considering she doesn't always know what the right thing is to say to him. She steps forward to help him before he even asks, picking up the rope and throwing it back inside. For a moment she considers making him walk back in the front door and telling Watson, but decides against it. Nataku doesn't require that sort of discipline.]

Hold on. [Selendis bends down and scoops him up so that he's sitting on her forearm and can lean on her shoulder.]

Thank you, Selendis. [With her help, he slides back into the room through the window. He turns back to her, sticking his head out but with no intention of leaving.]

You were not harmed at all in the battle. Does that not mean that you are a great warrior?

[She just nods at him, as the thanks isn't really necessary. If she'd been faster he wouldn't have even made it out the window, but...]

That I am a trained warrior is only part of it, Nataku. I also have a capable and reliable partner to fight with me, as well the other people that defend this city. I could not do what I do by myself.

[Blink.]

Do you consider all of them your friends?

Reply

justiceisdue June 5 2011, 01:58:38 UTC
[A blink in return. She's bent over enough that they're eye level through the window.]

I would consider them my peers and allies. I do not know many of them well enough to call them 'friend'.

[He nods, thoughtfully.]

Then, we are not friends, either?

[She's never really had friends that weren't protoss, actually.]

That is not what I said. Nataku, what is your definition of 'friend'?

[Oh. He stares blankly at her for all of a few seconds, before his head tilts.]

I do not know.

[That answer doesn't surprise her anymore.]

You must have some small idea, otherwise you would not have asked me those questions. What do you think the definition might be, Nataku?

What do I think...

[He goes silent as he tries to find his answer. Kamui said that he should see people as acquaintances, which he took as his father saying that if they grew too close to them; it would hurt if something happened to them. Basing actions on emotion is not something that he is used to doing, but he tries all the same.]

The person in my memories did not have any friends. I do not know what a friend is, but I suppose I know what an acquaintance is. The definition might be someone that would be sad if something happened to you. A cold feeling would come over their chest even though they are not family. It is not ... love, though, correct?
