[ Franziska attended training sessions for a couple of reasons. The first reason was breakfast. There was something about training session breakfasts that made her feel at home. The second reason was actual training. She wasn't going to let her whip skills rust.

The third reason was whip maintenance. Sitting on one of the benches, she has her whip raised above her head now as she inspected the braids. Tenten had the whip well maintained before she handed it to Franziska, so Franziska didn't have to do much. Still, the sunlight would do its leather good.

Bother her? Just try not to surprise her while she's holding that thing. ]

[Hanabi greets Franziska with a small smile. She's currently got a cup of hot chocolate in hand. Since arriving in Death City, she's developed a taste for the warm beverage.]

Good morning.

[And that is how you greet a von Karma without getting hit. Franziska places the whip on her lap and tries to smile back. It's still (unintentionally) more smarmy than kind.]

Good morning, Hanabi Hyuuga. Are you done with your morning training?

Not yet...I'm having some hot chocolate to warm up before I get back to it. It's a lot colder here than it ever got in Konoha.

[Aside from being away from home in the first place, the cold is definitely the thing she likes the least about being here in Death City. Hanabi is accustomed to warm temperatures that seldom require more than a light jacket. She's gotten used to having to layer her clothing a great deal here.]

Do you mind if I watch you train with your whip while I have my hot chocolate?

I don't mind but I can't at the moment. I reserved this hour for maintenance and I intend to keep my schedule.

[Besides, it's a bit too cold for training. Not as cold as it was in Germany, sure. But it's too cold for a place that's supposedly near a desert.]

Won't you sit down, Hanabi Hyuuga?

[Hanabi nods and takes a seat near Franziska, but not so close that she'll distract her from working.]

Does it take a full hour to properly maintain a whip?

[She's sincerely curious. The only Weapons that are standard fare for Konoha Academy students are shuriken and kunai. She takes her set of Watch-issued weapons out to polish while Franziska works.]

It also takes a full hour to properly digest one's breakfast.

[ She was serious. But admittedly, Franziska just prefers keeping a precise schedule.

She observes Hanabi and her weapons. They were definitely foreign for someone like her. ]

Can you use all that?

[A full hour? It seems odd to Hanabi, but ninjas aren't taught about things like that. They're taught not to eat large breakfasts so they can be on the move almost immediately after eating if necessary.]

Yes.

[She holds up her Watch-issued shuriken first.]

These are only for throwing. But these...

[She holds up the kunai]

These can be used for throwing at an enemy or for close combat.

[ Franziska has seen enough pop culture to know what those do, though the kunai looked less familiar. She squints, not knowing what to call them. ]

How long have you been able to use them?

About five years...although I didn't really get any good with them until about two years ago.

[Teaching her everything about their clan's fighting style had been higher on her father's priority list, and she'd only started at the Academy three years ago.]

Are they really that hard to master? They're just throwing knives.

[... well, they are.]

Just throwing them at a target doesn't take that long...but actually being able to use them in a fight is different. There's a moving target that might attack at any second, and you have to pay attention to your surroundings, too. Ninjas who get really good with them can catch one that's being thrown at them between their fingertips.

[ Circus performers can do that too, is what Franziska thought. But that comment might be too rude and Hanabi seems proud of her ninja roots so she'll hold back that comment. ]

That's impressive.

Six years. Before that I wielded a riding crop.

Have you had to use it in a fight before?
