Not until he saw the flickering lights... The street lights weren't orange. Didn't flicker, either. Then, he smelled smoke. A fire!?
"Shit!" The tiered layout of Death City let him see that it wasn't just some random house fire... the smoke and lights told him all he needed to know.
Kanji set off without another thought.

Instead he found Ling just touching down to the ground and seeming to regret that decision. Kanji tried that once at home. Never again.
"You're that guy from the other day," he said, a tone of warning in his voice. Was he the one that did this!? His grip on the chair tightened.
"The hell's going on!?"

"Then we're goin' in the same direction. Let's go!"
Shouldering the chair in case he still needed it, Kanji set off for the residential district. The bigger fires were there, and they would only grow the more he stood around gabbing.

Ling stepped up and gave instruction, and some were grateful for some direction, all ready making their way in the direction specified. However, Kanji's painfully-short patience had run out at the sight of some gawkers.
"We're with Shibusen, damn it! Listen to the guy and MOVE YOUR ASSES! NOW!" He roared with impressive volume, and a whole lot of heads turned. Those that were moving were moving far quicker now, and the crowds had begun to disperse. After a nod, Kanji pushed forward, dodging departing individuals as he went for the building ( ... )

"Damn it... can't kick the door down without makin' shit worse," he muttered under his breath. He just had to look in somehow--
"Be right back! I got this one, get this floor cleared!" He shouted, and disappeared down the stairwell to the lower floor.

Knowing young children, knowing what they were like when frightened and knowing how many strange corners there were in a building like this -- moreover, knowing the state of the adults outside and that they wouldn't have had the attention to spare for ensuring the young ones' safety, not really...
There was no time to waste. But he did need to know one thing, his grip on the pipe at his side tightening as he asked, urgently, "I'm sorry, sir, before I go... Did you see anyone physically attacking or otherwise harming the ones living in this building?"
The man in question looked more bedraggled than truly injured, but Allen would be no help to those he needed to find if he wasn't prepared for an ambush.
