"Figures..." Kanji stepped out of one of the many convenience stores, scratching the top of his head. They didn't have that boxed dinner he liked, but he supposed he could just grab ingredients and cook something up with what pans he had available to him. In his mild grumping about, he didn't notice anything at first.

Not until he saw the flickering lights... The street lights weren't orange. Didn't flicker, either. Then, he smelled smoke. A fire!?

"Shit!" The tiered layout of Death City let him see that it wasn't just some random house fire... the smoke and lights told him all he needed to know.

Kanji set off without another thought.

He made a quick detour to a nearby cafe's outdoor seating, scooping up one of the metal chairs when he heard a whistle from above. Kanji's teeth bared, and he was ready to turn around and happen upon the one behind the fires and beat the living hell out of them.

Instead he found Ling just touching down to the ground and seeming to regret that decision. Kanji tried that once at home. Never again.

"You're that guy from the other day," he said, a tone of warning in his voice. Was he the one that did this!? His grip on the chair tightened.

"The hell's going on!?"

He listened, and appeared less tense as Ling explained himself. Nothing about what he said sounded like a lie, but he wasn't an expert judge of character. Still, what was important now was that there were fires burning, smoke in the air, and people that needed help. Kanji nodded.

"Then we're goin' in the same direction. Let's go!"

Shouldering the chair in case he still needed it, Kanji set off for the residential district. The bigger fires were there, and they would only grow the more he stood around gabbing.

Kanji merely nodded with the compliment, focused on the task at hand. When they arrived, he swore under his breath at the sight of the crowds. They weren't going to get anywhere at this rate, and the fire was only going to spread. One of the windows had all ready begun to spew flames, its occupant long gone and continuing his rampage.

Ling stepped up and gave instruction, and some were grateful for some direction, all ready making their way in the direction specified. However, Kanji's painfully-short patience had run out at the sight of some gawkers.

"We're with Shibusen, damn it! Listen to the guy and MOVE YOUR ASSES! NOW!" He roared with impressive volume, and a whole lot of heads turned. Those that were moving were moving far quicker now, and the crowds had begun to disperse. After a nod, Kanji pushed forward, dodging departing individuals as he went for the building ( ... )

All you, man! topgun_textiles January 11 2012, 05:42:42 UTC
The way the smoke poured from the cracks, Kanji wasn't sure if they should even try opening it. If someone was inside and hadn't taken the fire escape, there wasn't going to be any way for the person to respond.

"Damn it... can't kick the door down without makin' shit worse," he muttered under his breath. He just had to look in somehow--

"Be right back! I got this one, get this floor cleared!" He shouted, and disappeared down the stairwell to the lower floor.

It was normal for Ran Fan to panic whenever Ling went missing, but seeing the commotion as she checked the town tonight increased her worry tenfold. And so she had run into the burning building when she reached it. She wasn't quite sure why she had headed into such a place, but somehow she had a feeling ( ... )

so Shiru said I should pop in... sostaygold January 11 2012, 12:50:54 UTC
He needed to comb the area for more scattered victims, of course, because it seemed like that strange boy had left nothing but destruction in his wake; but Allen found himself more worried, for now, about the apartments. Not because they contained his belongings, since all he had he'd owned for less than a week, anyway -- but because city fires were disastrous and despite how different this place was, things seemed to burn just as easily ( ... )

\o/ Ran Fan can also jump in whenever sostaygold January 12 2012, 01:34:47 UTC
"There are two children unaccounted for?" Allen nearly bolted for the stairs right then -- because he hadn't seen children among those outside, which meant they could be anywhere.

Knowing young children, knowing what they were like when frightened and knowing how many strange corners there were in a building like this -- moreover, knowing the state of the adults outside and that they wouldn't have had the attention to spare for ensuring the young ones' safety, not really...

There was no time to waste. But he did need to know one thing, his grip on the pipe at his side tightening as he asked, urgently, "I'm sorry, sir, before I go... Did you see anyone physically attacking or otherwise harming the ones living in this building?"

The man in question looked more bedraggled than truly injured, but Allen would be no help to those he needed to find if he wasn't prepared for an ambush.

[OOC: Almost forgot, but there is no minding here! :p I am down with that arrangement.]
