[Unfortunately for Allen, this habit of taking walks at ridiculous hours is about to catch up to him; there's no real reason to check the network when most of the city is in bed, so he doesn't realize anything's amiss and wanders off along one of his usual routes.

It becomes a little more evident something's amiss when he turns to go back and gets to the first few flaming wreckages.

He's not even sure what they were, but they're quite thoroughly destroyed. There's a chill going right up his spine as he looks around, because whatever this was it certainly can't be natural; for a moment he contemplates going right back the way he came, but it would take much longer that way. Not practical, nor likely very safe.

Nevertheless, it's only after he's found a decent length of metal pipe that Allen begins skirting his way around the edge of the mess, hoping against hope to make his way back before he encounters the threat.]

Allen ignores the shouting in favor of diving the hell out of the corner he was just backed into, straight into a roll because the gamble had allowed the torch too close -- his hands are worse than ever and he needs to make sure his clothes don't light.

He can't see where the torch went in all that, but he can't waste a moment, either; his next move is to dig his pipe into a nearby smoldering pile of embers and fling them at Ryoki to distract him from finding the torch himself.

[Ryoki's eyes widen when he realizes the attack. And panic raises within him; fear nearly crushes his throat, and he can't even scream. He moves, almost automatically, jumping back and stepping away the fast as he can.

His foot wasn't fast enough, however, so the half bull's next movement is to step on his own foot in order to prevent any fire from starting or getting too big - ignoring the burnt skin along the way.

He huffs, looking at Allen like an enraged animal]/small> I'll fucking kill you.

[The look and the threat send a shiver down his back, but Allen doesn't flinch -- he's still moving, using the opportunity to put one of the burning trash cans between Ryoki and himself.

He crouches behind it and very deliberately digs the tip of the pipe, nearly too hot to hold from all it's been through, into another pile of embers.

It's a clear challenge, though he says nothing.]
