I'm really getting into the idea of electronic cigarettes...I've been doing some research, but it's a shit-awful slog through sensationalist bullshit and corporate sponsors, all contradicting each other. I don't know what to think! SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT TO THINK ( Read more... )

Being someone addicted to cigarettes is a multi-faceted condition, and Soul has identified the absence of the physical act of the hand-to-mouth object manipulation to be a big factor for him (and certainly not because it was his only outlet for his raging homosexuality).
So this could be a sound investment for him.

By the way, do you know if rollies are any safer (that is, less toxic - not less... on fire) than ordinary smokes?

Yeah, they contain less chemicals, is my understanding, but you're still in for a full dose of carbon monoxide, nicotine and tar.

I was just reading the same thing. Apparently the inhalation of smoke of any kind, from any source, is incredibly harmful. Who knew?

I have never heard of e-cigarettes before, but they sound awesome. Much better than those weird nicotine inhalers things. I always expect them to make a 'wwwwhhheeeeeEEEERRRRWWWWW' noise. [it's hard to onomatapate, yo]
Nothing of use to add to this discussion. Just stating my support for this endeavour.

Then my onomatapeiaing did its job. On reflection, perhaps just saying "nicotine inhalers remind me of kazoos' would have been easier.

I heard a very good discussion about e-cigs on NPR a while ago, maybe a year or more, and unfortunately remember very little of it (though i'm fairly sure everyone agreed that you'd go through cartridges rather too quickly). I do however remember my conclusion being that they were most likely a scam of sorts, and not at all worth the bother/expense.

Well, unless you use them to give up smoking cigarettes, in which case they certainly seem worth the bother/expense.
If you don't smoke, and want to take up a hobby, then yeah, definitely a waste of money and effort.
