What exactly happened here?
Six months prior to the events of Soul Campaign, Maka Albarn, Death the Kid, and Black★Star managed to defeat the Kishin Asura and put a stop to the madness wavelength. With their victory, Shinigami-sama organized the recovery of Death City and the rest of the world, returning the Death Scythes to their proper stations and rebuilding what had been damaged. Life seemed to be returning to normal, slowly but surely...
Until one month later.
No one knows the circumstances, but somehow, Shinigami-sama was murdered. They only things found were his broken mirror in the Death Room and the shattered remains of his mask. The news brought chaos to the city, which had been ruled over by the Death God since the beginning of its existence. No one was quite confident in his young replacement, leaving them to live in a constant state of fear.
The witches, who had always been kept in line by their respect of Shinigami-sama’s power, now had the perfect opportunity.
They have managed to keep the war at bay for the past five months, but the situation is getting dire. Death City is in serious danger without the strength of their former leader, and BREW has accidentally been activated, summoning people from all different worlds to provide re-enforcements.
Why are we here?
In a moment of desperation, the new Shinigami-sama longed to have the forces necessary to defeat the witches and keep Death City safe. What he did not know, however, was that BREW would respond to his unconscious desire, and attempt to grant this wish - which is where you come in.
BREW opened a rift to other worlds, drawing in souls from other times and universes to help in the struggle against the witches. While powerful, the demon tool is by no means perfect - it selected people at random, endowing them with the means to fight, and in doing so, theoretically granting Shinigami-sama the troops he so desperately needed.
Unfortunately, the witches are still at large, meaning Shinigami-sama’s wish has not yet been completed. Until the battle is won, BREW is unable to grant a second wish - meaning that all those who were summoned are effectively trapped until the battle is won.
How are we getting home?
Once the battle is over and Death City is safe, BREW will consider Shinigami-sama’s wish granted. When this happens, he has promised to send everyone back to their respective worlds.
Do we have to return to our own worlds?
If you would like to continue living in Death City once the war has finished, that will definitely be allowed. After all, by helping Shinigami-sama, you have definitely earned your right to stay as a citizen.
Are we free to go?
Absolutely. Shinigami-sama is only requesting your help - he is by no means demanding it. If you feel uncomfortable helping him, you can live as an ordinary citizen. You’re free to do what you wish until BREW is able to return you to your rightful world.
Where do our characters arrive?
Those who have been chosen by BREW will arrive in the Kishin Chamber.
This is the wake up post which will describe to you your surroundings, and will link you to the current introduction log. Each cycle there will be an introduction log in which your character will be greeted by Shibusen personnel, given a tour of the city, and have their questions answered.
I want to take a character from a point where s/he was injured from battle. Can they arrive like this? Is there a way to arrange for a healer to be present at his arrival, or would there be a better approach to it?
We have
introduction logs for all newcomers to the game. We can always have one of the NPCs lead your character to the medics at the local clinic for treatment (by one of the player characters, if you like!). If you have any other suggestions, feel free to contact a mod! We'll try to arrange it for you.
Can I join the witches?
No, you cannot. ICly, all the characters come in via the BREW and must first remain with Shibusen. Any characters who engage in criminal activity in the city will be punished by the applicable laws in Death City -- aka jail, community service, etc. Making the witch camp means that we will be splitting the game between two parties, and at the moment, we have no intention of doing so.
Who is Medusa?
Medusa is a witch, who is the head of all of the witch attacks lately. She is extremely powerful, having been "killed" twice already. No one is quite sure how she's still alive or where she's hiding, but it is ultimately Shibusen's goal to rid of her for the last time.
She also resurrected the Kishin Asura, causing the world to turn to madness. To revive him, she used an experiment that she had been working on for some time: Black Blood. When injected into a person's body, black blood causes insanity and closely related, the inability to feel fear and pain. Meaning, the insanity clouds over the conscious being and takes control- leaving the person in a state of madness. Of course, there is always the option to fight the insanity and overcome it, or one can take the easy way out and let it control their lives, plunging down into the deep abyss of madness.
Who is Adachi?
Originally a man, no more or less than any of the guests that BREW had brought to Death City. Unfortunately for Shibusen and its students, Tohru Adachi was capable of far more than they bargained for. An individual who had already killed two women in Inaba, Japan; it was not much of a leap for Adachi to use his newly acquired Meister abilities to prey on the unsuspecting citizens of Death City. Feeding on human souls, Adachi became first a Kishin Egg, then eventually transformed into a fully-fledged Kishin - though one still new enough in his powers to be defeated by Shibusen and the allies they had acquired via BREW.
After Adachi was defeated, Death the Kid and the other leaders of Death City ripped his soul from his now demonic body and sealed it within the depths of Shibusen.
Adachi's soul will now remain in Shibusen for all eternity, its power used to fuel the barrier that protects Death City from its enemies and the madness wavelength. He is the only one of the guests to be executed in such a manner as to not allow another 'version' of him to be summoned to the city once again (which means he is not applicable).
