Outdated?

Just listening to the radio and a woman announced that "the male breadwinner and stay-at-home wife no longer exist" because everyone has to work their arses off so that they can have a huge mortgage and all the latest gadgets. It's been lovely knowing you all, but sadly it appears that Ed and I no longer exist... ;-p

What does that make us then? Presumeably non-existant in additionaly dimensions or something since I'm working, being paid but not technically employed. Or are we simply a family of eremistes?

(Apologies for use of French semi-slang but we just don't have such a concise yet scornful way of saying "rotten-layabout-slackers-permanently-on-the-dole" Oh, no, I suppose "chav" is quite similar... ;-)

Like you said, you and Ed are extremely lucky in that you managed to get a teeny tiny mortgage before the house prices tripled.

Now stop rubbing it in! :op

Hmm.. We keep looking at the budget *lots*... and it's going to be supremely tight on the old money front. I find it scary that you can no longer live as a 'normal' family on one wage... but then that's the changing times, eh?

Of course, we could both get the sack, go on the dole, I could get knocked up, and we'd be better off cashing in on insurances and claiming benefits. Hardly an incentive, eh?
