I completely agree, I know I definitely have a tendency to want to use love as "really good or cool". Using it for diversions, distractions, food, etc...it's not right. I've been trying to catch myself and use luv instead of love for things like that. Still conveys the gushy aspect of it, w/o tarnishing the beauty and majesty of the real thing :)
