They actually canceled VGL in Philly last year because they couldn't sell enough tickets. ;_; They tried again this year and went through with it, but they only sold half of the seats they needed to and probably won't be coming back next year. :(
What they should really do if they want to get an east coast audience is play the weekend of Otakon in Baltimore and actually sell tickets there. They tried that at Wizard World in Philly this weekend, but I think there are more people at Otakon who would appreciate video game music.
Yeah, I thought it would have made more sense to try to coordinate it with Otakon, hell, have it in the same place they did the L'arc concert a couple years ago. "Play!" is playing at Wolf Trap, about an hour (50 miles)southwest of Baltimore. I'd consider ducking out of the con to go to it, but you'd be talking about braving DC rush hour traffic on a Friday evening to make that 8pm show. You'd be lucky to make the trip there in 3 hours in that case, considering you probably don't want to arrive at the last minute before the show starts..
Who knows, maybe they think they'll get more people coming to it BECAUSE Otakon is going on 50 miles away. But I think those 20,000+ people would rather stay at the con than venture away for a few hours for a concert. Now if it was in the same city or even a few blocks away, it'd be another story probably.
I'd really like to see Play!... It's going to be in Philly at the end of July, but there are no cheap seats, so I'm not so sure about it. From what I've heard, that's probably a better show than VGL, though.
