Another fine mess

{Day16, 17:00am}Raven started awake as the book fell from his lap, slamming closed as it hit the stone floor. It took him a moment to orientate himself as he was unused to waking in this room. Of course, the same could be said for any room in this castle. The early afternoon events quickly filed through his memory as he jumped to his feet and ( Read more... )

Elizabeth thinks she woke up some time ago, but she doesn't remember falling asleep. Her eyes have been focused on the ceiling for hours, or minutes. Or minutes that seem like hours. She has no real desire to find out for sure.

She thinks about trying to sleep--really sleep--but all she sees when she closes her eyes is darkness, and all she hears are whispers. Yuuri. Yuuri. Yuuri. Yuuri. The name resonates in her mind and makes her stomach twist and her heart ache.

She thinks about getting up, but the best she can manage is a finger twitch. The thought of her beloved in the arms of another woman...this...this Yuuri...draws her energy away from her, sucks the life from her limbs and leaves her a motionless lump on her not-uncle's bed.

She hears a thump, but can't be bothered to turn her head, even when she hears someone moving in the other room and the door quietly opening. Instead, she heaves a great, pitiful sigh.

Raven peered in, taking in the scene with a practiced eye. She hadn't moved. He was about to close the door again and leave her to sleep when he heard the most heart rending sigh from his niece.

He moved closer, gently calling to her, hoping that she was indeed awake and responsive.

"Elizabeth? Are you awake?"

Her eyes flick to the side, so she can see who is adressing her, though she knows his voice. Dear Raven. Dear, dear Raven. If only she had the strength to reach out to him with her pale little hand. Sigh.

"Am I awake?" She looks again to the ceiling, speaking partially to him and mostly to herself. "My eyes are open, but all I see is darkness. I must still be asleep. Or dead." Sigh.

Raven moves closer, before veering away at the last second to pull open the heavy drapes holding back the daylight. He moved closer to sit on her (his) bed and took her tiny hand in his.

"You are not dead, Elizabeth. Although I was worried. I... I... I called for Gisela to look you over when I feared the worst."
