Okay, it's a couple days late, but my New Year's can be summed up pretty quickly:
· boys
· liquor
· kittens
· too many cigarettes, and
· fruit cocktails
For a more indepth explanation of these:
I got the QX4 for the night, which was kewl... I got to drive in style, even if I did look like a fuckin yuppy drivin my big, silver SUV (Suburban assaUlt Vehicle). I tried to downplay the social elitism by pumpin Adam Jay's newest shit from the bangin Bose audio system in that motherfucker... thunder, baby, thunder... drool. The evening pretty much started at 7:30P @ the Abbey. I met up with Shiva (
djshiva) and Aeryn, where we proceeded to dork around for a couple hours. Our whole conversation was pretty much unintelligible to any outside party, so tightly interlaced as it was with our little inside jokes and obscure references (it doesn't help, either, that we kept flitting in and out of English, Portuguese, French, and Oppyspeak). I went from 3/4 a pack of Camel Light 100s to about 1/4 a pack in the two hours we were there (not all my doing, Shiva's broke and kept bummin off me). Shiva introduced us to this rockabilly lookin kidd named Matt (funny as hell!), then we ran into Chris (for once not surgically joined @ the hip to Savana) which was nice (okay, so Chris is also really nice to look at, ::blush::).
Around 9:30p, Aeryn said we should probably hit her brother's party. We said our goodbyes and jumped in the QX4 and drove to the St. Joseph district on the old northside. The party was at Aeryn's brother's (Garrett's) friend's (Gene's) house. Really nice place. It's one of the new townhouses on Alabama just south of English Ivy's... pure shwank. Once we get in, Garrett introduces us around. Shiva and Aeryn were two of four girls present. The rest of the twenty or so of us were all gay bois. The girls and I jump up the kitchen/bar and the extremely lovely bartender de la nuit (Gina, rrrowwrr [sorry, inner lesbian coming out]) served us our G&Ts and White Russians. As I'm standing there waiting for my wonderfully sweet and milky beverage to be served, one of the bois I'd been introduced to kept giving me the eye. Teehee, yay! He was a cutie, too (probably 24-26, 5'10"-6', lean, dark brown hair, huge beautiful dark brown eyes, large aquiline nose [delicious! I love larger-than-average noses], average clothes [unpretentious good], very nice lips).
Shiva and I sat around and listened to Aeryn's badinage with her brother. We eventually checked out the hoeurs d'oeuvres spread. Shiva hit the pirouettes and cream while I destroyed the vegetable platter (drool... yummy... celery, carrots, asparagus, and peppers of every color). After we finished our cocktails, we split a couple granny apple Woodchucks between the three of us. All the while, the same boi who'd been eyeing me kept doing so. Eventually, Shiva and I stepped outside to smoke. We're there for a couple minutes when out pops the boi and a couple others. The guys start chatting with us, and I come to learn that the cutie who'd had is eyes on me was named John. We all pulled down a couple cigs each before we started to feel our skin freezing over, so we popped back inside. John stayed with Shiva and I and chatted with our group. Everytime he said something in my general direction, we made eye contact.
Now, it's been quite a while since I've been interested in someone and been pretty well assured that the interest was reciprocal (well, at least that I'm aware of; if Shiva's words are to be believed, I have secret fan club out there, but I frankly don't buy it). So, basically, I splashed down into giggly, dorky puddle of goo every time John had his back turned (it was all very Améliesque). Shiva and Aeryn kept prodding me to give John my number, but my innate meekness towards bois I'm attracted 2 kept making it difficult for me to approach him.
Almost without fail, when Shiva and I went out to have a cigarette, John would appear in short order. As if I needed any proof that he was just as interested in me as I in him, one time while we're smoking, Shiva made a comment about my hair (I've been letting the front grow out a bit so I can spike it up a bit, just to give it a little more visual style than my usual near-scalp level Caesar cut). John pipes up and says, "Yeah, it's really adorable."
My reaction: blink... blink... duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
We go back inside, and I chat with the girls. All of a sudden, everyone starts counting down to midnight. We all rush to join the group around the kitchen/bar television. At midnight, we all whoop and holler and wish everyone a happy new year. Shiva and Aeryn start snogging, while I look around distractedly. My eyes meet John's across the room. He raises his champagne flute and tips his head in a toast to me. I return the gesture smoothly, while my face starts burning and my heart picked up its rhythm a bit. Apparently the girls had noticed the toast as well, to much raising of eyebrows.
The girls and I toast each other and we hug one another and kiss (nothing quite as intimate as the one shared by my lovely little lesbian love duo, though... yay! I'm so happy for them). I keep hoping John will saunter over to ask get a New Year's kiss... ah, but to no avail.
Finally, the girls decide it's time to jump to another party down on the far southside. While Shiva's going to the restroom, I grab John and give him half of my Copenhagen ticket with my phone number and email address on it (I hope he realizes I destroyed a treasured ticket so he could have my digits, LOL). We talked a bit one-on-one. There was a bit of that post-hit-on awkwardness, but he smiled and maintained eye contact (those eyes!) the whole time. Eventually we said goodbye and I left with the girls to a lame-ass party in Greenwood that made me feel old. Oh well... I was all glowy one way or the other, LOL.
Okay, that's it!
Later, kids!
