We're supposed to be a nation of progress, but instead the media is staying vigilant, and constantly reminding us that Mr. Obama is different because he's black. While I wholeheartedly agree with you that he is a man, who is an American, who won the popular vote... I always remind myself that I am a white, middle-class male and I have NO idea what it is like to be black in this country. As such, I can only infer what it is like and I put this into perspective

It's sad how much racism and sexism exist. I heard the most appalling thing from one of our county clerks last night. I work in the media, as you know, and was at work last night until 2:30 am putting numbers on the tv. At one point in the night, our reporter Sheena called a county clerk to ask about results. The woman on the other end of the phone said, "McCain.... (whatever number of votes). Black....(number of votes)." (!!!) Sheena asked, "who's Black? There's no one by that name on the ballot." The woman responded with some comment about how she "can't remember his name." We were all so embarrassed for Kalkaska county at that moment. Sheena also happens to be black. She handled that phone call with such professionalism, it was amazing

There's simple way of getting rid of racism on this planet. We need to be attacked by aliens. Then we can be racist against them. Problem solved!
