I'll admit that the phrase neo-soul makes my ear wax curdle. But, Georgia Anne Muldrow has completely knocked me over. She's the daughter of a former singer for Pharoah Sanders's band in the 70s, if that gives you any indication, and her recent effort, Olesi: Fragments of Earth was one of the most surprising records of last year. This is the first cut off of it, which admittedly was really hard to pick because it offers more vision as an album than as a composite of singles. But I figured I'd give it a shot. Listen to those piano chords! The lovely dissonance!
