Has... anyone who was sent back home that returned later, when you came back did you remember being here before? Did you remember right away, I mean.

If you didn't... did you ever remember?

[ Joshua sees Neku's entry and deliberately ignores it. He doesn't have any reason to respond to the question itself, and he doesn't feel like engaging Neku right now. So instead he is going to stay holed up in his home. He's too sick to deal with this right now.

A bit later, he heads downstairs to make tea. He's bundled up in a blanket, complete with flushed face and fuzzy slippers, and just as he finishes pouring a cup, the door opens and he looks up.

Oh.

Just who he wanted to see.

Joshua doesn't say anything immediately. ]

[That's okay, Neku will talk first.]

Er, sorry. I just thought-I guess I'm getting memories back that are really old. [This is not awkward what are you talking about.]

[Tap, tap, tap.]

I remembered right away. But not all of it, but I can blame that on not wanting to remember them.

[Until they jogged back into mind. Ugh, Rise's cookies.]

Bad memories then?

For a certain level of 'bad'.

I guess that's understandable.

Not right away, no. But everything came back to me eventually.

[...]

Well, I think it was everything. It's hard to be sure whether or not there are still some memories missing.

Do you know about how long it took?

It was two or three months before my memories seemed to be mostly stable, but there have been a few random things that I was only able to recall significantly later. Possibly up to about ten months after I was brought back here.

Are you concerned about things that you still can't remember, or is this just out of curiosity?

I was here for about two years before I was sent home, so I'm wondering if I'm going to be able to remember everything again.

I guess I just need to give it time.

[It takes her awhile to decide to reply; she's never comfortable saying so much about herself, and her own feelings; and the idea of leaving, the idea of coming back, the idea of forgetting (something so important) are hopelessly intertwined with the memories.

But by sharing it, she may be able to discover something more by hearing his experiences as well, adding to her pool of knowledge about the situation.]

I remembered, after awhile. However, while I was in my world, I didn't remember anything about Luceti at all.

That's... how it was with me. I didn't remember anything about Luceti back home, either. And apparently I've been here a few times.

How long was a while, though?

A few months. I don't remember everything, but I remember some things.

But when I was home, it was so important to remember Luceti. And I didn't.

I guess they don't want us to remember anything when we get home. Has anyone remembered before?

[Ah... Let's see...]

This would be my second time being here... and every time, the memory of this place is hazy until I find my way around again. The people and places and names become clearer... I've used the Guide as a refresher though... Though, I didn't remember Luceti while I was back home...

So you just had to use this place to jog your memory...

[A small pause.] Guide?

That's right. [-- oh, someone else who didn't know about it.] The Guide is a helpful resource created by one of our very own, Miss Sage. She's a teacher at the school here, too, I'm pretty sure. Um, let's see...

[Luca's got terrible handwriting (according to his friends), but he'll try his best to make it legible...]

The Guide.

[Legible enough for Neku! There's a pause on Neku's end for a few minutes before he responds again. Wow that thing is kind of huge.]

I might... have to read that all later. T-thanks, though.
